The UNH Sustainability Institute seeks a Student Sustainability Leadership Coordinator to provide program support and administration for a range of student-facing programs aimed at building sustainability leadership skills and experiences. Sustainability, which we understand to mean a collective commitment to human dignity for all people and ecological integrity for all places, is a core value at UNH. UNH is proud to be a national leader in sustainability in higher education, one of only a handful of universities with the highest rating level, Platinum, through AASHE's STARS. We know that UNH's excellence in sustainability is a driver of enrollment at UNH, and our programs are intentionally designed to help students easily engage in sustainability and build related experiences into their educational and co-curricular journeys while on campus. Our sustainability education programs focus on cultivating student engagement, competence, confidence, and courage in the face of global sustainability challenges, as an essential building block of a community culture and broadly shared ethos that embodies our sustainability values.
This position will play a critical role to that end, providing student-focused outreach and communications, advising and mentorship, leadership development and training, and 1:1 supervision and support to encourage participation and success in sustainability education programs. It will also have primary responsibility for day-to-day coordination for selected programs, including the Changemaker Fellowship (a program designed for first-year students), Trash2Treasure (a student-powered initiative that helps UNH meet its zero waste goals), and UNH Sustainability Advocates, based in UNH's residential buildings. It will require a consistent on-campus presence and include some work on evenings and weekends.

  • 1-2 years' experience implementing programs, ideally with an undergraduate student audience, and within higher education
  • Enthusiasm about working collaboratively and entrepreneurially to drive organizational and societal change
  • Leadership or mentorship experience and/or training
