Process Development Associate Scientist - Inspection Vision System
What you will do
Let's do this. Let's change the world! In this vital role, you will join the Drug Product Process Development Inspection team to support Drug Product inspection processes with emphasis on inspection vision systems, data-driven troubleshooting, recipe/process optimization, inspection performance analysis, and technology transfer. The role will partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Automation, and Process Development teams to improve inspection reliability, reduce false rejects, support deviation investigations, and implement innovative inspection technologies in a cGMP manufacturing environment. This role may include hands-on support in laboratory and manufacturing environments, including periodic support of production investigations or non-standard shifts based on business needs.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Support troubleshooting, optimization, and lifecycle management of automated inspection vision systems used for Drug Product inspection.
  • Analyze inspection performance data, defect libraries, reject trends, false reject rates, and system performance indicators to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support vision recipe development, camera/lighting/lens setup, image acquisition studies, and inspection method optimization.
  • Contribute to investigations involving inspection performance, defect detection, reject classification, and automated inspection system behavior.
  • Support implementation of advanced inspection technologies, including machine vision, statistical analysis, automation, and AI/deep learning where appropriate.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree
OR
Master's degree
OR
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of scientific, process development, laboratory, or manufacturing support experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience or academic exposure in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, automation, engineering, computer vision, data analysis, or other technical environments.
  • Exposure to automated inspection, machine vision, visual inspection, packaging inspection, manufacturing automation, image analysis, or related technologies.
  • Interest in learning visual inspection of parenteral drug products, including particles, cosmetic defects, container closure defects, defect libraries, and inspection lifecycle activities.
  • Working knowledge or willingness to develop knowledge of cGMPs, quality systems, deviations, CAPA, change control, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with data analysis, statistical tools, visualization, or programming languages such as Python, C#, .NET, VBA, or similar.
  • Familiarity with machine vision concepts or components, including cameras, lighting, lenses, image acquisition, frame grabbers, and inspection algorithms.
  • Familiarity with industrial vision platforms, PLCs, automation systems, machine learning, deep learning, or AI-based image analysis is a plus.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, problem-solving, learning agility, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish, written and verbal.
