Job description

Assistant Teacher

Under the direction of the Lead Teacher(s) the Assistant Teacher is responsible for providing high quality care to children enrolled in the Early Care & Education Programs. This role also participates in the implementation of daily routine and age/developmentally appropriate learning opportunities. The Assistant Teacher must maintain high personal standards and adhere to, and carry out, the Purpose and Values of Greater Midland.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain daily documentation of activities, progress, milestones and Key Developmental Indicators. Assist the Lead Teacher in collecting assessment data to be entered into COR Advantage.
  • Engage with parents/guardians through written, verbal and social media platforms.
  • Consistently engage at the child’s level throughout daily routine.
  • Support Lead Teacher in daily activities.
  • Meet basic needs including but not limited to diapering/toileting, food prep/service, supporting personal hygiene practices, and support physical, cognitive and social/emotional development.
  • Build and maintain healthy and supportive relationships with children, parents/guardians and staff.
  • Ensure the safety of all children at all times.
  • Maintain compliance and follow State of Michigan Licensing guidelines at all times.
  • Complete 24 + hours of professional development per year.
  • Complete CPR/First Aid as needed.
  • Consistently demonstrate behaviors aligned with Greater Midland Values.

Qualification Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required; CDA preferred. (3 credit hours in child related field preferred).
  • Experience working with children is preferred.
  • TB and Fingerprint clearance required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Bending, twisting and reaching required.
  • Ability to continuously physically engage at a child’s level.
