Position Summary: Provide for youth success by supporting YMCA Early Learning program participants in maximizing their potential, to provide behavioral, educational, and social emotional education to individuals and small groups, and to assist youth in understanding and seeking solutions to social, emotional, or academic issues; serve as a resource for staff and families. Travel may be required.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct small group or individual activities and interventions related to behavioral, personal, and social and emotional issues
  • Assists in handling participant behavior management problems and in resolving concerns and personal issues. Follows up with staff to provide preventative measures.
  • Advises and support staff in preventative behavior management and healthy response to escalated behavior issues
  • Provides program/classroom/learning center guidance and techniques for successful behavior
  • Provides short term, immediate participant support and follow up consultation with parents and guardians, including safety planning, behavior success planning.
  • Keep an organized record of behavioral interventions utilized on site.
  • Work in program or classroom in-ratio per DCYF requirements, as needed

Knowledge:

  • Best practice of behavior guidance techniques and strategies that are developmentally appropriate, evidenced base, and support positive behavior outcomes.
  • Principles, methods, techniques, and trends in educational, vocational, social, and emotional support strategies
  • Social service and youth service agencies in the local area
  • Social, emotional, and behavioral characteristics of children and youth
  • Support participants with complex needs in mild to intermediate intervention
  • Principles, goals and objectives of youth serving organizations

Skills and Abilities:

  • Assist students in effectively analyzing and developing alternative solutions to behavioral, educational, social, and emotional concern
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal communication skills in a variety of situations and with a variety of audiences
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls
  • Inspire confidence and trust in others
  • Provide conflict resolution and mediation support

Qualifications:

  • AA. or B.S. in social work, education, psychology, or related field services preferred
  • MSW or MA/MS in social services desired
  • Experience assisting students and families with mental health and social programs
  • Experience and/or training with cultural and learning diversity
  • The ability to speak and write Spanish is highly desirable
