Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Mill Trainer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday schedule.

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.ย  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Mill Operations Superintendent, the Mill Trainer is responsible for the development of training materials and delivery of processing-related training to end users, including training on standard operating procedures (SOPs), and numerous pieces of processing equipment and Mill processes in line with the Mill's training strategy to ensure employees' competency and professional development while maximizing processing equipment and enhancing production safety.

Responsibilitiesย 

  • Stands a courageous safety leader by promoting and supporting the creation of a strong safety culture and safe practices and leading by example,
  • Participates in safety initiatives, toolbox meetings, hazard identification and incident investigations,
  • Develops and provides delivery of the job-specific training within the Mill Operations department,ย 
  • Provides training and coaching of operators in the safe and efficient operation of all mobile equipment, including classroom work, and fieldwork,
  • Works in collaboration with Mill Operations Supervisors and employees to develop and roll out standard operating procedures (SOPs),
  • Coordinates the training of Processing Operators, conducts initial and periodic competency assessments to provide input towards lines of progression and feedback to the operator, supervisor, and general foreman,
  • Documents all competency assessment information, including course outlines, attendance, and evaluations,
  • Maintains accurate records of training events, provides training reports to Mill Leadership, and ensures they are available upon request,
  • Ensures all on-the-job training is done consistently and in accordance with site policies and procedures,
  • Encourages continuous improvement in all aspects, including training hours and any recertification requirements,
  • Ensures all legislated training requirements are current,
  • Provides relief operation coverage when required,
  • Develops training action plans for operators that require further education, training, and coaching,
  • Administers all aspects of the future computer-based learning/training programs and assists in the development of any programs,
  • Partakes in continuous improvement initiatives of the department and the development and implementation of new training programs,
  • Facilitates effective and timely delivery of established internal training materials, systems, and processes targeting improvement of Processing Operator knowledge and skills,
  • Participates in developing shutdown run down plan and work in collaboration with Shutdown Coordinator to develop lock-out plans for agreed shutdown work list,
  • Utilizes available resources to provide professional Mill Operations training manual to further assist with the development and skill level progression of Processing Operators,
  • Contributes to the onboarding process for new hires,
  • Works collaboratively with the Mill Operations department to ensure productions goals are achieved,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Mill Trainer role as required or as assigned by the department head.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED),
  • Minimum of 5 plus (5+) years of experience in mineral processing with one (1) or more years as a trainer or a supervisory role,
  • Demonstrated experience in developing procedures and overseeing the training for Mineral Processing functions, including Crushing, Grinding, Flotation, Dewatering, and Reagent Systems,
  • Experience in delivering training packages, utilizing learning theories/styles appropriate to the workforce,
  • Experience in using and training with distributed control systems (DCS) for the control of plant processes,
  • Extensive adult training experience in relevant fields,
  • Sound experience in coaching, training, and evaluating trainees,ย 
  • Proficient user of computer applications and audio/visual presentation equipment,
  • Operating knowledge of Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver's license and have access to personal transportation.

Working Conditions

  • Work will include a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments,
  • Required to be clean-shaven.

Rate of Pay

$106,470.00 - $118,300.00 / Annum
