About the Job
 

Public Health Faculty (Teaching Specialist or Lecturer)
This position works in-person in Rochester, MN. This role is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship.

The University of Minnesota Rochester (www.r.umn.edu) invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position in public health for its undergraduate degree program, the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS). 

The position is primarily teaching-focused with the expectation of contributing to departmental and institutional service (90% teaching, 10% service). 

  • We are seeking a qualified instructor who has significant interest in supporting student learning in a high-contact model inside and outside of the classroom and will work closely with other faculty to coordinate and teach a range of established undergraduate public health courses. 
  • The successful instructor will have experience and/or specific interest in teaching introductory public health courses and using in-person instructional practices. 
  • The instructor should be interested in teaching student focused courses in the Center for Learning Innovation, such as first-year courses, to support student success. 
  • There may additionally be opportunities for the instructor to teach or develop elective courses in public health that align with their expertise and the interests of UMR students.
  • Duties include preparation and delivery of course content in an interactive learning classroom, grading, holding weekly hours in the Just ASK tutoring center (https://r.umn.edu/academics-research/academic-resources/just-ask), supervising undergraduate teaching assistants, facilitating department-wide data collection efforts that coincide with course delivery duties, participating in faculty governance, supporting students, and other related duties as assigned.
  • Continuing professional development is expected from the instructor and there will be opportunities to attend conferences, workshops, on-line tutorials, and to join professional development opportunities, and/or membership in professional organizations.
Qualifications
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters or doctorate degree in public health or a closely related field and significant knowledge of public health fundamentals
  • Strong interest in best practices in teaching and learning and their application in an undergraduate setting

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Masters or doctorate degree in public health 
  • Comfort working independently and within a team
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), a commitment to exemplary teaching
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Knowledge of best practices in teaching and learning and their application in an undergraduate setting
  • Experience with student mentorship
     
About the Department
 

The instructor will join the Center for Learning Innovation (CLI), an innovative, interdisciplinary department.  The CLI coordinates the development and teaching of an integrated, writing-enriched curriculum for a baccalaureate degree in the health sciences. It promotes a learner-centered undergraduate environment in which ongoing assessment informs pedagogical and curricular choices and is the basis for data-driven research on learning.

Pay and Benefits
 

Pay Range: $55,000 - $71,855 annually, depending on education/qualifications/experience
