What is a leaf guard?

Leaf guards, also known as gutter guards, are devices installed over or inside gutters to prevent leaves, debris, and other materials from clogging the gutters. Their main purpose is to allow rainwater to flow freely through the gutters while blocking larger debris that could cause blockages. Installing leaf guards can reduce the need for frequent gutter cleaning, help prevent water damage to your home, and extend the life of your gutter system. There are various types of leaf guards, including mesh screens, foam inserts, and surface-tension covers, each designed to fit different needs and gutter types.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Leaf Guard installer?

To thrive as a Leaf Guard installer, you need strong manual dexterity, basic carpentry or roofing knowledge, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, ladder safety, and sometimes OSHA certifications are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and excellent customer service skills help you excel in this role. These skills and qualities ensure precise installations, safety on the job, and positive customer experiences.

What are some common challenges faced by Leaf Guard installers, and how can they be addressed?

Leaf Guard installers often work outdoors in varying weather conditions, which can present physical challenges and safety concerns. Navigating roofs and ladders requires strict adherence to safety protocols, as well as physical stamina. Additionally, installers may encounter unique roof structures or unexpected debris, requiring problem-solving skills and adaptability. Building good communication with clients and team members helps address any site-specific issues that arise and ensures smooth project completion.

Job description

AG Exterior Cleaning is a growing Jacksonville-based exterior home services company — the sister company to Affordable Gutters, an established local business with a 5+ year track record and a loyal customer base. We're expanding our services beyond gutters into full exterior cleaning: house washing, roof soft washing, all-surface pressure washing, window cleaning, and leaf guard installation.

We're looking for a hands-on, reliable technician to join our crew part-time, with real opportunity to grow into more hours and higher pay as we scale.

What you'll be doing:

  • Pressure washing driveways, patios, walkways, fences, and other hard surfaces
  • Soft washing roofs and house exteriors (low-pressure, chemical-based cleaning — no shingle damage)
  • Cleaning and installing gutter guards/leaf covers
  • Gutter cleaning
  • Exterior window cleaning
  • Working directly on customer properties, representing our company professionally at every job

What we need from you:

  • Comfortable working on ladders regularly
  • Willing and able to walk on moderately sloped roofs (training provided, but you shouldn't be afraid of heights or roof surfaces)
  • Comfortable working outside in Florida heat/humidity for full shifts
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
  • Strong work ethic, shows up on time, takes pride in the finished result
  • Good communication — you'll sometimes be the one interacting with homeowners on-site
  • Ability to lift equipment (pressure washers, ladders, hoses) and be on your feet most of the day

Nice to have (not required):

  • Prior experience in pressure washing, soft washing, roofing, landscaping, or similar outdoor trade work
  • Experience with ladders/roof work in a professional setting
  • Any general home services or construction background

Why work with us:

  • Growing company with room to move into more hours, a lead role, or a percentage-based pay structure as you prove yourself
  • Backed by an established, trusted local brand (Affordable Gutters) — not a startup with no track record
  • Hands-on outdoor work if you don't want to be stuck behind a desk
  • Direct access to ownership — this isn't a big corporate crew, you'll work closely with the people running the business

To Apply:
Tell us a little about yourself and any relevant experience (or why you're a good fit even without it). We're more interested in work ethic and reliability than a resume.
