LP Financial Planning Services Ltd is a Winnipeg based CIRO dealer that has been supporting financial advisors for over three decades and continually strives to integrate industry leading processes and systems. Presently servicing a select group of advisors in Ontario, Winnipeg, and Western Canada, LP Financial is taking steps to grow its footprint and service offering in the Canadian financial services distribution landscape.

Reporting to the Director, Information Technology, the Lead Software Developer is a senior member of the Software Development and Information Technology teams responsible for the design, development, support, and continuous improvement of LP Financial's business applications and technology solutions. 

This role combines hands-on software development, technical leadership, and people leadership responsibilities. The successful candidate will contribute directly to software development, lead technology initiatives, support key business systems, and coach members of the development team while ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with business objectives. 

What you will do

LEADERSHIP

  • Lead, coach, and develop members of the software development team through regular feedback, one-on-one meetings, and performance reviews.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.
  • Lead by example through technical excellence, professionalism, and customer-focused solution delivery.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

  • Design, develop, and maintain software solutions that improve business processes and deliver value to advisors and internal teams.
  • Provide technical leadership through architectural guidance, code reviews, development standards, and best practices.
  • Lead software initiatives through all phases of the software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to define requirements, priorities, and delivery plans.
  • Drive adoption of modern development practices including Agile delivery, CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud-native technologies.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and tools to improve system performance, reliability, maintainability, and developer productivity.
  • Oversee integration of internal systems, third-party applications, and cloud-based services.
  • Ensure software solutions are secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with business and regulatory requirements.

TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS

  • Partner with infrastructure and DevOps teams to support and evolve LP Financial's hybrid cloud and on-premises technology environment.
  • Support the administration and optimization of key business systems, including SQL Server databases and the Univeris back-office platform.
  • Contribute to technology planning, architecture decisions, operational improvements, and long-term technology strategy.
  • Participate in disaster recovery, business continuity, system monitoring, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation of business applications, integrations, and supporting technologies.

SECURITY & COMPLIANCE

  • Promote secure development practices and remain current with cybersecurity threats, industry trends, and emerging technologies.
  • Ensure software solutions and technology processes align with security standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Support technology risk management, business continuity planning, and compliance initiatives.

What you will bring

  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or managing software development team members.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, application integration, and modern development practices.
  • Familiarity with the financial services industry is an asset.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.

The base salary for this position is between $86,600 - $144,300 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
