Job description

Cullerton Group is seeking an experienced SCADA / Microgrid Controls Engineer to support behind-the-meter energy and resilience projects for commercial, institutional, and federal facilities.

This role will focus on integrating the controls and communications needed to coordinate battery energy storage systems (BESS), generators, solar/PV, and other distributed-energy resources (DER) within microgrid environments.


Location: Remote – United States

Schedule: Full-time | Must support Eastern Time business hours

Travel: Project-site travel as required

Engagement: Contract

Pay: $80–$125/hour


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and integrate SCADA and microgrid control systems
  • Develop control architectures, sequences of operation, and control narratives
  • Integrate BESS, generators, solar/PV, and other DER assets
  • Establish communications between PLCs, RTUs, field devices, and microgrid controllers
  • Integrate new controls with existing facility systems
  • Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, software, and project teams
  • Support compliance with applicable safety, cybersecurity, federal, and customer requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related discipline
  • Significant hands-on SCADA / industrial controls experience
  • Experience with microgrids, BESS, generators, onsite power, or distributed-energy systems
  • Hands-on PLC and RTU integration
  • Experience with communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, or IEC 61850
  • Experience developing control narratives and sequences of operation
  • Experience supporting complex commercial, industrial, institutional, or federal facilities
  • Ability to support Eastern Time business hours and project-site travel
  • Ability to satisfy applicable federal, CUI, export-control, citizenship, and security requirements

Preferred

  • Honeywell ControlEdge or other Honeywell controls experience
  • Federal or DoD project experience
  • Microgrid controller integration and commissioning
  • Medium-voltage power systems knowledge
  • Active or previous security clearance
  • UFC experience
