Job Summary:
Booz Allen Hamilton is seeking a Front End Software Engineer to enhance user experience through innovative web development. The role involves collaborating with UI/UX designers and back-end developers to create efficient, user-centric web applications while mentoring team members and ensuring accessibility across platforms.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) designers and back-end developers to create a seamless user experience using React.
• Ensure accessibility for all users by developing a front-end that functions across browsers, platforms, and devices while meeting accessibility and security requirements.
• Mentor teammates and guide a development team to learn new tools and techniques, identify and implement system improvements.
• Resolve problems in mission-critical tools by collaborating with a development team to build web applications and tools with a user-centric design.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 5+ years of experience in software development with front-end programming languages and web development stacks such as Python, React, Node.js, Next.js, or CSS
• Experience with TypeScript for scalable and maintainable front‑end development
• Experience writing automated front‑end unit, component, or E2E tests using tools such as Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, or Playwright
• Experience implementing performance optimization techniques such as code-splitting, lazy loading, or Lighthouse-based improvements
• Experience with user requirement gathering to inform UI designs
• Experience creating solutions to complex problems within a collaborative, cross-functional team
• Ability to apply best practices and WCAG 508 compliance beyond basic requirements
• Ability to work in Git‑based workflows including PR reviews, branching strategies, and CI checks
• TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and 5+ years of experience in software engineering, or 8+ years of experience in software engineering in lieu of a degree
Preferred:
• Experience with code reviews, system design, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Experience with AWS cloud technologies
• Experience with infrastructure as code languages, such as Terraform
• Experience collaborating closely with designers on usability improvements
• Experience delivering front‑end applications through cloud-native architectures such as hosting SPAs on S3 or CloudFront and serverless integration with Lambda API Gateway
• Experience with modern CSS approaches including Tailwind CSS, Styled Components, Emotion, or Sass
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI for automating front‑end build and test pipelines
• Knowledge of API Integration
• Knowledge of UX heuristics
• Ability to work with automated testing tools to perform testing and maintenance
