Lead Cardiac Sonographer

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Lead Echo Tech, you will play an essential role in guiding both your patients and your clinical team through critical diagnostic moments. You will perform high-quality echocardiogram exams while providing the leadership and technical oversight necessary to ensure excellence across the department. You’ll have the opportunity to influence operational functions, mentor staff through clinical activities, and partner closely with cardiologists and hospital leadership to maintain the highest standards of cardiac care. With a focus on professional development and teamwork, you’ll have the platform to build your leadership expertise and make a lasting impact on the health of our community every day.

Your role will include:

  • Delivering expert clinical care by performing echocardiogram exams according to established protocols while maintaining the same high standards and patient-focused requirements as the staff tech team.

  • Guiding departmental operations by creating and maintaining staffing schedules, managing PTO requests, and adjusting productivity hours based on patient volumes to ensure seamless service.

  • Ensuring quality and compliance by assessing regulatory standards and quality assurance issues with department leadership while providing the vital data needed for performance improvement plans.

  • Leading and mentoring the team by assisting with staff meetings, addressing performance or clinical concerns, and continually assessing the professional growth of the echo staff.

  • Promoting safety and collaboration by following all facility risk mitigation strategies for hazardous medications and fostering strong communication between staff and physicians to enhance teamwork.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire.

  • Current ARDMS (AE) and/or CCI certification is required.

  • Graduation from an accredited school of ultrasonography, echocardiography, or radiologic technology is preferred.

  • 5 years of post-graduate experience in the field is preferred.

  • Previous supervisor or management experience to support leadership responsibilities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to successfully interact with patients and the cardiac care team.
