Job description

Lead Data Center Delivery Engineer
Modular Data Center Deployments
Location: Houston, TX (United States) • On-site • Full-time
About Submer
Submer designs and delivers end-to-end AI datacenter infrastructure built around industry-leading liquid cooling.
We help organizations scale AI beyond the limits of traditional datacenters by enabling higher density, greater efficiency and lower environmental impact - accelerating time-to-AI from first deployment to full production.
What impact you'll have
The Lead Data Center Delivery Engineer is a hands-on technical leadership role at the center of Submer's modular data center deployments. You will personally own the technical execution of deployments in the field, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) integration, on-site installation and commissioning, and the hands-on troubleshooting that gets systems live and stable, while leading two project teams across two geographies.
You will lead a full execution team based in India that drives development and build-out of the modular systems, and a customer-facing engineering team based in the United States that handles on-site adjustments, modifications, and customer-specific requirements. Your job is to connect the two: making sure what is developed in India translates cleanly into field-ready systems the US team can adapt and deploy.
This is deliberately not a director or VP seat in name only. We are hiring a builder who has done the work on the product themselves, deployed data centers with their own hands, and still wants to be on site with the equipment while leading the teams that build and adapt it.
What you'll do
  1. Lead two project teams
  • Lead the India-based full execution team that drives development and build-out of Submer's modular data center systems.
  • Lead the US-based, customer-facing engineering team that handles on-site adjustments, modifications, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Own the handoffs and a clear working rhythm between the two teams so development in India feeds directly into field execution in the US.
  • Set the technical standard across both teams, resolve conflicts, and keep development and field work aligned to the same specifications.
  1. Deployment Execution
  • Lead modular data center deployments end to end, from site readiness through installation, commissioning, and handover to the customer.
  • Own deployment schedules and on-site sequencing, and keep work moving against timeline and budget.
  • Coordinate with product, manufacturing, and logistics to make sure systems arrive site-ready and install as designed.
  1. MEP & Systems Integration
  • Own MEP integration on site: mechanical and cooling systems, electrical distribution and power, and plumbing / fluid systems.
  • Review and validate mechanical and electrical designs against real site conditions and adjust in the field when conditions differ from the plan.
  • Stand up the basic networking and controls needed to bring monitoring, telemetry, and management systems online at deployment sites.
  1. Commissioning & Troubleshooting
  • Drive systems through commissioning, functional testing, and stable operation before handover.
  • Troubleshoot faults hands-on during installation and commissioning and drive issues to resolution rather than escalating them away.
  • Enforce safe work practices and compliance with site safety and data center standards throughout execution.

What you'll bring
  • A degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or related) or equivalent hands-on field experience.
  • Direct, hands-on experience deploying and commissioning data centers, on the product itself, not solely in an oversight or program-management capacity.
  • Strong working knowledge of MEP systems and practical experience integrating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing on live sites.
  • Hands-on competence in electrical systems: power distribution, and safe work practices in a data center environment.
  • Hands-on competence in mechanical systems: cooling loops, pumps, heat exchangers, and fluid handling.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, CREO or SolidWorks, and specialized structural or piping software. Proficiency in thermal-fluid systems design, mechanical packaging, and system-level integration.
  • Strong knowledge of Cooling and Server systems Deep knowledge of closed-loop fluid dynamics, structural piping design, materials compatibility.
  • Working understanding of networking sufficient to stand up monitoring, controls, and management connectivity at a site.
  • Experience leading technical teams and, ideally, coordinating work across multiple sites or geographies (a distributed development and field team).
  • Willingness to work on-site in the Houston area, coordinate with a team in India across time zones, and travel to deployment locations as needed.

Desired Attributes
  • Direct experience with modular, prefabricated, or containerized data center deployments.
  • Experience managing distributed or offshore engineering teams and translating development work into field execution.
  • Data center commissioning credentials or MEP / electrical / mechanical certifications.
  • Experience deploying high-density, AI, or HPC infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with data center standards and site safety requirements (e.g., Uptime Institute, NFPA, OSHA).
  • A strong bias for action, resourcefulness on site, and a drive to leave each deployment better documented than the last.

What we offer
  • Attractive compensation package reflecting your expertise and hands-on experience.
  • The opportunity to build the infrastructure behind sustainable, high-performance computing.
  • A dynamic, diverse, and mission-driven environment inside a fast-growing scale-up.

Our job titles may span more than one job level. Actual base pay depends on factors such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demand.
Our commitment to inclusion
Submer is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, veteran status, or any other protected category under applicable law.
