Brief summary of purpose:
This position supports Data Center operations Days 8:30-5:00 pm. Also, Help Desk ticketing and escalation when necessary. Computer Operator will need to work off hours shifts and be part of a rotation work schedule. Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
This position requires permanent work authorization in the U.S. We will not provide visa sponsorship or accept candidates on OPT/CPT for this role.

Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
The Computer Operator supports the computer room operations by:
Work directly with the Manager of Operations to develop, improve and standardize Data Center procedures.
Expected to execute any job submitted by the scheduler or authorized requests procedures, productions jobs, using the operations department procedural run documentation. Required to perform any operational task within the QNXT environment.
Monitor the various computer systems, which may include the use of software monitoring tools. Performs analysis and initiate corrective action for operating problems. Document, track and contact the appropriate on-call designee in accordance with set procedures.
Monitor the inventory of data processing stock and supplies necessary to support processing activities; includes mountable media, paper, labels, printer consumables and any Data Center supplies.
May interact with departmental staff, customers, and vendors concerning equipment/system problems or limitations; provides trouble-shooting on remote peripheral devices. Monitors, tracks and makes service calls when required.
Insure accurate tracking of Data Center metrics; includes printer counts, paper usage, media usage, operational requests, media mounts and any other requested by the Shift Lead, Data Center.
Insure Data Center physical security by monitoring, logging and escorting all personnel having business in the Data Center.
Monitoring and administrating the system resources and routine application functions to ensure completion to meet expectations of each job.
Ensuring backups and backup tapes are cataloged and stored in proper location.
Keeping log of all off-site storage of tapes and monitor tape library for correct cycling of tapes.
Assisting Help Desk in Level 1 support in evening hours of operations at the System Center (6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.) by tacking and escalation of end user problems.
Keeping records of generator, UPS, batteries, HVA and system maintenance and schedule with respective parties the required routine maintenance procedures.
Maintaining the Security Access Log to the computer room.
Check and maintain daily statistical logs; document hardware errors for review and prevention of major problems.
Collect, file and distribute all computer output printed inside the computer room to appropriate users.
Maintain accurate records of magnetic storage media to include computer tapes and disc paks passing into and out of computer room; including logging of offsite storage and associated cycles.

In accordance with the Massachusetts Wage Transparency Act, the pay for this position is $30.00-$35.00 per hour which reflects what we reasonably and in good faith expect to pay at the time of posting. Final compensation will depend on the candidate's experience, skills, and fit with the role's responsibilities.
