Position: Chemical Operator

Reports to:  Operations Team Lead

Shift:  Monday to Friday - 8 hours/day - Rotating Shift

Hourly rate: $25.24

The range shown reflects the targeted pay scale. Actual pay within the range depends on work location and factors such as skills, experience, and education. Specific salary details can be discussed during the hiring process. Posted compensation reflects base salary only and excludes bonuses, benefits, pension contributions, and other incentives.

Scope of the Position

This job is diverse to perform general plant operator duties within both operations: Grinding Bauxite and ALUM production while also assisting with maintenance as needed. The Operator is an integral part of the production team and is responsible for the overall grinding and chemical production process. Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment (Front End Loader/Forklift), loading railcars, assisting with maintenance as needed, and supporting daily

production operations. The ideal candidate will be attentive, knowledgeable, and have a desire to work with other production team members to develop the best processes and products.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • 1-3 years of experience working in chemical manufacturing or manufacturing/production

  • Experience working with forklifts preferred.

Knowledge

  • Ability to demonstrate experience using Microsoft programs, maintenance management systems and email.
  • Aptitude for mechanics.
  • Willingness to comply with safety and quality regulations, including wearing protective gear when necessary.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs or more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform grinding and chemical manufacturing operations safely and effectively

  • Record and monitor production data (weights, raw materials, temperatures, inputs)

  • Monitor and control pressure and temperature of process equipment

  • Operate plant equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Safely handle, transport, and process chemicals and raw materials

  • Document plant processes and maintain production records

  • Operate pumps, piping, valves, and assist with railcar loading/unloading

  • Troubleshoot production and equipment issues

  • Maintain plant inventory records

  • Operate mobile equipment including:

    Front End Loader

    Forklift

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly housekeeping tasks
  • Assist maintenance team as needed

      These duties align with standard operator responsibilities in existing site job descriptions.

Working Environment

  • Chemical manufacturing plant producing Liquid Alum, ACH and PAC chemicals
  • Physical capability of performing tasks in 100 degree ambient temperatures while wearing Protective Personal Protection.
  • This job requires climbing stairs and ladders and also lifting (within OSHA guidelines).
  • This job consists of outside elements where radiant heat or cold is normal work environment, and rotating shifts.
  • Following all plant safety guidelines such as: Confined Space, Working with heights Management of Change, Hot Work and Operating Procedures
  • Must be able to work scheduled 12-hour days with intermittent 14 - 16 hour days for emergency operations/repairs.
