Laboratory technicians often encounter challenges such as managing high sample volumes, ensuring accuracy under time constraints, and adhering to strict safety protocols. Balancing multiple tasks—like processing specimens, recording data, and maintaining equipment—requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals is essential, as timely and precise results directly impact patient care. Staying updated on new technologies and procedural changes is also important for ongoing success in this role.

What are 'Lav' jobs?

In the entertainment industry, 'Lav' typically refers to 'lavatory' or 'lav mic' (short for lavalier microphone). However, as a job title, 'Lav' is most commonly associated with the role of maintaining and servicing lavatories, particularly in settings such as film sets, event venues, or public facilities. Lav attendants are responsible for cleaning, restocking supplies, and ensuring a hygienic environment. The job requires attention to detail, the ability to work efficiently, and good customer service skills when interacting with guests. Proper sanitation and adherence to health regulations are crucial aspects of this role.

Job description

Welder II LAV - ASME Pressure Vessels (LAV)
Location: Equipment & Assembly Facility - Pittsburgh, PA
Pay: $29.79/hr. starting + structured wage progression
Bonus: $1,000 New-Hire Retention Bonus
Calgon Carbon | A Kuraray Company
Why This Role Stands Out
If you're an experienced welder who takes pride in code-quality welds, pressure vessels, and complex fabrication, this role offers work that challenges your skill-not repetitive production welding.
At Calgon Carbon, our welders fabricate large ASME pressure vessels and piping systems that support critical air and water purification solutions used around the world.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Perform ASME code welding on pressure vessels, piping, and structural components
  • Weld using FCAW, GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, and SAW
  • Work with carbon steel, stainless steel, and nickel-based alloys
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and weld procedures
  • Complete ASME weld logs and quality documentation
  • Pass non-destructive testing (NDT) for pressure-retaining welds
  • Use overhead cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts safely
  • Inspect and repair welds to meet code and quality standards

This is hands-on, high-skill welding-not light fabrication or bench work.
Weld Test & Certifications
  • On-site weld test required as part of the interview process
    • Test is aligned with ASME Section IX procedures
    • Designed to reflect the actual work performed in the shop
  • Prior ASME code welding experience required
  • Company-paid certification and recertification to CCC welding procedures

We believe great welders should show their skill, not just talk about it.
What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years of experience welding pressure vessels or pipe (FCAW required)
  • High school diploma or trade school certification (welding preferred)
  • Ability to pass on-site weld qualification testing
  • Strong attention to safety, quality, and documentation

Schedule
  • Rotating shift operation (details reviewed during the screening process)
  • Overtime opportunities as business needs require

Pay, Bonus & Benefits
  • $29.79/hr. starting pay with structured wage progression
  • Shift Differential: Additional $3.00 per hour for qualifying shifts
  • $1,000 new-hire retention bonus
    • $500 at hire
    • $500 after 9 months of successful employment
  • Excellent benefits starting Day 1
    • Medical, dental, vision & prescription coverage
    • 401(k) with generous company match
    • Paid time off (vacation starting at 3 weeks)
    • Tuition reimbursement and ongoing skill development
