These roles include clerical, technical, maintenance, food services, and other support staff positions that help schools and district operations run smoothly. Classified employees play a crucial role in supporting students, teachers, and administrators. Unlike certificated positions, such as teachers, classified jobs do not require a teaching credential but may have other qualifications or experience requirements.

To thrive in a LAUSD Classified position, candidates generally need strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and relevant experience or education aligned with the specific job classification, such as clerical, maintenance, or instructional support. Familiarity with LAUSD's specific software systems (like SAP or other district management tools) and adherence to relevant safety or compliance certifications is often required. Excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability are standout soft skills for success in a diverse school environment. These skills and qualities ensure efficient school operations, positive interactions with students and staff, and support for the district’s educational mission.

What are some typical career advancement opportunities for LAUSD Classified employees?

LAUSD Classified employees enjoy a structured pathway for career growth, with opportunities to promote to higher-level positions within their job families, such as moving from an entry-level clerical role to senior administrative or supervisor positions. Advancement may require meeting experience or certification requirements, which are clearly outlined in job postings and internal resources. Employees also benefit from a large and diverse network within LAUSD, providing opportunities to apply for different departments or specialized roles as they gain experience.
