What does a laundry tech do?

A Laundry Tech, or Laundry Technician, is responsible for operating laundry equipment to wash, dry, and finish linens, uniforms, and other textiles, typically in hospitals, hotels, or industrial settings. They sort, load, and unload laundry, monitor machines, and ensure proper handling of fabrics to prevent damage. Laundry Techs also perform minor maintenance on machines and keep work areas clean. Their role is essential to maintaining hygiene and operational efficiency in facilities that require large volumes of clean textiles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a laundry tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Laundry Tech, you need knowledge of laundry procedures, attention to detail, and the ability to operate industrial washing and drying equipment, typically requiring a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with commercial laundry machines, detergents, and inventory management systems is often necessary. Reliability, time management, and teamwork are essential soft skills for maintaining workflow and meeting facility needs. These skills ensure efficient, hygienic processing of linens and garments, supporting overall operations in healthcare, hospitality, or similar environments.
