Position Description
The Laundry Aide performs daily laundry operations in a long-term care facility while maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment. The Laundry Aide handles resident personal clothing and facility linens with care, ensuring items are properly identified, processed, and returned to the correct residents or designated areas. The position works closely with nursing, housekeeping, and other departments to ensure residents have an adequate supply of clean clothing and linens.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collect soiled resident clothing, linens, towels, and other laundry items according to established procedures.
  • Sort laundry appropriately by color, fabric type, level of soil, and required washing process.
  • Identify and properly handle contaminated or heavily soiled items according to infection-control procedures.
  • Operate washers, dryers, irons, folding equipment, and other laundry equipment safely.
  • Use detergents, disinfectants, and other laundry products according to manufacturer and facility guidelines.
  • Inspect laundry for stains, damage, or missing identification before and after processing.
  • Fold, hang, organize, and distribute clean clothing and linens.
  • Ensure resident clothing is properly labeled and returned to the appropriate resident.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of clean sheets, blankets, towels, gowns, and other linens throughout the facility.
  • Keep the laundry room, equipment, storage areas, and work surfaces clean and organized.
  • Follow infection-control, OSHA, safety, and facility procedures.
  • Report damaged equipment, lost or missing clothing, supply shortages, or other concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality and treat residents' personal belongings with care and respect.
  • Assist with other housekeeping or environmental-services duties as assigned.
