Job Title: Punch / Laser Operator

Job Description

A growing manufacturing organization is seeking a CNC Laser / Punch Operator to join its production team. In this hands-on role, you operate CNC laser cutting and punch press equipment to manufacture sheet metal parts according to precise specifications while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. You contribute directly to production output, equipment care, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC laser cutting and punch press equipment to manufacture parts according to detailed specifications and work orders.
  • Load CNC production programs, verify machine setup, and ensure correct tooling and materials are in place before starting runs.
  • Position, load, and securely clamp raw sheet metal materials onto the equipment in accordance with safety and quality guidelines.
  • Monitor machine operation and cut quality throughout production runs, making adjustments as needed to maintain consistent output.
  • Perform minor machine offsets and adjustments to optimize part accuracy, cut quality, and overall machine performance.
  • Remove completed parts from the machine, handle materials safely, and stage parts for subsequent processes or packaging.
  • Conduct quality inspections on finished parts using measurement tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Complete production reports, basic documentation, and associated paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Read and interpret work instructions, work orders, blueprints, and production documents to ensure correct part fabrication.
  • Follow all safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, and adhere to established quality standards and fabrication practices.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness by performing routine housekeeping around machines and keeping the work area organized and free of hazards.
  • Support calibration and inspection activities related to laser cutter, punch press, and other fabrication equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members, communicate issues promptly, and contribute to a productive and cooperative production environment.

Essential Skills

  • 1–3 years of experience operating CNC laser cutting and/or punch press equipment in a production environment.
  • Ability to load and run CNC programs and work confidently with CNC controls and machine interfaces.
  • Experience reading and following work orders, production instructions, and work documents accurately.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for sheet metal fabrication and part specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to quality standards when inspecting and producing parts.
  • Ability to perform machine offsets and minor adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and cut quality.
  • Experience handling sheet metal materials safely and efficiently during loading, unloading, and staging.
  • Basic experience completing production documentation and paperwork related to manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift materials as required for the duration of the shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

The pay range for this position is $47840.00 - $60320.00/yr.
