Job Description Everforth ECS is seeking a Marine AutoCAD Drafter to work in one of the following three locations: ( Newport, OR /Gulfport, MS / or Newport, RI). We are seeking a Marine AutoCAD Drafter to support engineering projects by preparing precise technical drawings, maintaining drawing records, and ensuring compliance with federal standards and agency requirements. Candidates are required to have experience in the marine industry with an understanding of typical ship drawings/documentation. The preferred location is at one of three NOAA's Marine Operations locations: * Newport, OR (2002 SE Marine Science Drive, Newport, OR 97365) * Gulfport, MS (1040 23 rd Ave, Gulfport, MS 39501 * Newport, RI (Naval Station Newport, 960 Peary Street, Newport, RI 02841) Remote locations will be considered for the highly qualified candidate. Key Responsibilities and Duty Breakdown * Technical Drafting and Design (70%): Prepare, update, and modify detailed 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD software. Develop layouts, schematics, and as-built drawings based on engineering specifications, field data, and project requirements. Ensure all drawings meet applicable codes, standards, and agency guidelines. * Drawing Review and Quality Control: Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications and federal drafting standards. Perform quality checks to ensure consistency in layering, scaling, dimensioning, and formatting. * Project Coordination and Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, architects, project managers, and other stakeholders to interpret design concepts and incorporate feedback. Participate in project meetings and provide drafting support when required. * Document and Configuration Management: Maintain organized drawing files, version control, and document repositories in accordance with NOAA policies. Ensure proper naming conventions, archiving, and retrieval of drawings. * Field Verification and As-Built Updates: Incorporate field data, site visits, and redline markups into final drawings. Update as-built drawings to reflect actual conditions and completed work. * Standards Compliance and Process Improvement: Ensure adherence to agency CAD standards, national codes, and best practices. Recommend improvements to drafting procedures, templates, and workflows to enhance efficiency. * Fleet Drawing and Technical Manual Management. (20%): Responsible for identifying, reviewing, and updating fleet drawings and associated technical manuals for each assigned ship to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with current standards. Tasks include developing and maintaining comprehensive index lists for each vessel, ensuring all drawings and documentation are properly cataloged and easily retrievable. Additionally, consolidate and standardize drawing templates in accordance with IAW S0021B Rev 1.0, ensuring uniform formatting, version control, and adherence to applicable technical and configuration management requirements. * Fleet Drawing and Technical Manual Uploading & AODocs Metadata Management (5%): Responsible for uploading finalized fleet drawings and technical manuals into the AODocs document management system, ensuring all required metadata fields are accurately completed and maintained. This includes document titles, applicable NOAA or agency document numbers, revision status, and effective dates. Verify the accuracy and completeness of all metadata entries and ensure proper document classification and folder placement to support efficient search, retrieval, and configuration control. Maintain consistency with established document management standards and ensure all records are current, traceable, and compliant with agency requirements. * Administrative and Reporting Tasks (5%): Prepare status reports, track deliverables to meet timelines, and support contract or project documentation requirements. Assist in responding to data calls, audits, or management inquiries. Provide support to print large prints for drawings to ships as requested. * Workload Flexibility: The duties and percentage allocations identified in this position description represent the typical distribution of work; however, workload priorities may change based on organizational needs, mission requirements, project schedules, vessel maintenance availability, staffing levels, and emerging engineering priorities. Employees may be assigned additional related duties or temporarily perform work outside the listed percentage allocations to meet operational requirements and ensure mission success. Required Skills * Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance. * Candidates are required to have experience in the marine industry with an understanding of typical ship drawings/documentation. * Ability to work independently as well as on a team. * Ability to organize technical documentation (hard copy and electronic). * Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
