Job description

Lao Family Community Development, Inc. (LFCD) is a community development non-profit agency established in the City of Richmond in Contra Costa County in 1980. Today, Lao Family has expanded its operations and service footprint to two additional counties, including Alameda and Sacramento. LFCDโ€™s headquarters are in Oakland, CA. It delivers programs and services from 7 locations in 35 languages. The agency provides community development real estate facilities and a diverse array of workforce, education, and human services that directly support predominantly low-income US-born high-barrier families and individuals, refugees, immigrants, transitional age youth, seniors, and other special populations such as individuals with disabilities.


Job Summary: LFCD is seeking a qualified candidate to support the Accounting Department with financial and administrative tasks as well as invoicing. This will help maintain accurate and timely financial records in compliance with agency policies and funder requirements. This candidate will be stationed at our Oakland Headquarters location and will report to the Accounting Manager.


Responsibilities and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit monthly cost reimbursement invoices and expenditure reports with supportive documents to the agencyโ€™s contracting funders.

  • Enter monthly accounts receivable into QuickBooks; monitor receivables aging and follow up as necessary.

  • Responsible for reviewing employer reimbursements for On the Job contracts, collecting W-9s, and verifying Federal ID numbers for an agency wage reimbursement program.

  • Enter weekly account payable invoices allocating expenditures to the proper programs with proper approvals, prepare payments, print checks, and submit to the check signers for signatures

  • Maintain paid invoices and other supporting documents, maintain list of current vendors and payments.

  • Prepare payroll checks as needed; prepare and file W-2s; prepare monthly bank reconciliations.

  • Updating and printing monthly unaudited financial positions including budget vs actual expenses by programs for board meetings and management.

  • Maintain and update agency equipment inventory.

  • Participate in agency staff meetings, assist with general agency activities as needed, trainings as needed, occasionally obtaining board member signatures.

  • Be actively involved in the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accreditation compliance and help accomplish the goals and objectives of the agency's strategic plan.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Accounting Supervisor, Accounting Manager, Director of Finance, and/or Chief Executive Officer.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or 2-3 years experience in accounting or related field.

  • Must be computer savvy, enthusiastic, client-centered, creative, dedicated, and organized.

  • Experience with doing payroll and work proficiently in computer skills: QuickBooks, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management.

  • Bilingual is Preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, time management skills, and the ability to work independently and as well as part of a team with other staff members and other agenciesโ€™ staff.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with groups, including making group presentations and facilitating workshops.

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
