Job description

Lao Family Community Development, Inc. (LFCD) is a community development non-profit agency established in the City of Richmond in Contra Costa County in 1980. Today Lao Family has expanded its operations and service footprint to two additional counties including Alameda and Sacramento. LFCDโ€™s headquarter office is in Oakland, CA. It delivers programs and services from 7 locations in 35 languages. The agency provides both community development real estate facilities and a diverse array of workforce, education, and human service that directly support predominantly low-income US-born high-barrier families and individuals, refugees, immigrants, transitional age youth, seniors, and other special populations such as individuals with disabilities.

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Youth Employment Program Supervisor, the Summer Job Program Fellowship will provide intensive case management support to program staff to serve Oakland youth aged 16- 30 including outreach, recruitment, intake assessment, job readiness workshops, mock interviews, worksite matching and placements support and annual youth leadership summit.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and contact youth for program participation from the existing contact list, attend community fairs, and outreach to community partners.
  • Provide program orientation and complete intake package.
  • Lead job readiness workshops, interview youth participants, provide one-on-one, and small group counseling; and assist with developing resumes and cover letters.
  • Identify participant skills and career interests and job match to secure internship opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain internship worksite partners that provide internship, and work-experience options for youth participants.
  • Keep track and record data of all youth participantsโ€™ attendance, workshop completion, timesheet verification for accuracy, and data input.
  • Provide ongoing check-in and support to the youth and employers during internship/work experience.
  • Assist in preparation of the Annual Youth Conference.
  • Effectively demonstrate an ability to take direction from management departments and staff in a project-oriented team environment.
  • Fulfill job responsibilities in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of corporate communications
  • Other duties assigned by the youth supervisor and coordinator

Requirement and Qualification:

  • A Bachelorโ€™s degree in a relevant field is preferred or the candidate can be a current student working on obtaining his/her Bachelorโ€™s in a related field; bilingual in Chinese, Vietnamese, and/or Spanish is preferred
  • Self-starter, ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to multi-task in a highly demanding work environment.
  • Strong public speaking, verbal, and written communication.
  • Proficient in computer skills: Excel, MS Word, database, PowerPoint, and internet explorer.
  • Knowledge of administrative, and clerical procedures and systems such as Microsoft Office, managing files and records, creating forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire; a background check is required.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and work on the computer; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear; move objects up to 25 pounds.

Compensation: This is a temporary position offering an hourly wage of $22 for 4 months. June to September 2026.
