Job description

Are you a compassionate individual looking to make a meaningful impact within your community? New Start SLS is helping an individual in Colusa look for their IHSS Support for Sundays 4pm-12am.
ABOUT THE ROLE:Supportive Living Services is a program designed to provide in-home and community-based assistance to adults with developmental disabilities who live in their own homes and want to make their own choices. At New Start SLS, we believe that individuals thrive when they make their own choices about where they live, work, and how they spend their time and resources. By taking control of the choices that control their lives, those with developmental disabilities can better direct their own future.
Through patience, guidance, encouragement and Person-Centered Planning, we support the individuals we serve to develop the confidence and skills they need to make meaningful choices, as well as experience fulfillment and greater independence. Each shift offers new experiences and the reward of knowing youve made a difference.
In this position, a few examples of the type of work you will be doing may include assisting the individual with: learning daily skills and activities, menu planning, grocery shopping, cooking, budgeting, cleaning, using public transportation, making and attending appointments, volunteering, and participating in social leisure activities.
Other duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Staff will be sensitive to the ethnic, lifestyle, and cultural diversity of our consumers and their circle of support. Staff will encourage, and help achieve consumer success.
  • Provide in-home and community based assistance to consumers according to individual service programs set up by Alta California Regional Center and New Start SLS.
  • Reporting of issues and concerns regarding consumers to New Start Case Manager.
  • Attending in-service training sessions when offered and complete required assigned continued education monthly.
  • Documenting of daily charting notes and adhere to Medication Administration processes.
  • Some of the individuals we support use electric or manual wheelchairs, receive assistance with adaptive equipment for transfer, and may require personal care assistance (ex: toileting, bathing, brushing teeth, wound assistance).
  • Some individuals we serve may require staff transportation support. To be eligible to drive clients, staff must be eligible and willing to use their personal vehicle during employment. Eligibility requires documentation review and maintaining copies of valid CA drivers license, current insurance, and clean DMV record with the office.
QUALIFICATIONS + PRE-REQUISITES:
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience supporting individuals with disabilities. Must also have a punctual and reliable work ethic with a positive attitude, empathy and the ability to support others.
  • Complete and Maintain a Satisfactory LiveScan Background Check.
  • Provide proof of current CPR and First Aid Certification from an in-person or hybrid based course.
  • IHSS: Must maintain current IHSS status/certification in Colusa County to provide IHSS support. IHSS Pay Rates are determined by each individual county in California. The current pay rate per hour in Colusa County is $17.40 per hour.
