Duties and Responsibilities:
Job Specification:
*Teach the equivalent of five (5) courses per semester (fall and spring)
*Develop and revise curricula
*Advise ASLS students
*College service (committee assignments, recruitment events, etc.)
*Professional development (conferences, workshops, publications, etc.)
*Serve as program manager for the Associate of Arts in American Sign Language Studies.
*Other duties as assigned
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in one of the following or a closely related field:
*American Sign Language
*Linguistics
*Sign Language Studies
*Sign Language Education
*Interpreter Education
*Deaf Education
*Deaf Culture
One of the following credentials:
*Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
*National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from RID
*Certification from the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA)
*Or an equivalent recognized certification
Preferred Education:
Master's degree in one of the following or a closely related field:
*American Sign Language
*Linguistics
*Sign Language Studies
*Sign Language Education
*Interpreter Education
*Deaf Education
*Deaf Culture
Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching American Sign Language at the college or university level.
