Position Summary
The Education Data and Statistical Analyst (EDA) reports to the Director of Outcomes Assessment and serves as a key member of the Office of Educational Outcomes and Assessment (OEOA) core data team. The EDA conducts data collection, analysis, and reporting of student and program data for all MSM academic degree, academic support, and student support service units. The EDA supports the development and execution of research and data analysis plans in alignment with OEOA data-use initiatives. Activities include working with the Student Data and Reporting Systems Analyst in the establishment and maintenance of datasets; coding and recoding of target data for ease of analysis and reporting; conducting simple and complex statistical analyses of quantitative and qualitative data; and the creation and maintenance of a set of data visualizations for all OEOA data initiatives. The EDA also collaborates with the Office of Institutional Technology of Office of Strategy and Institutional Effectiveness teams in the support of data integration and extraction in relation to the MSM Education Data Mart and Enterprise Data Warehouse.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline from a regionally acrredited institution.
Experience:1-3 years of data analytics experience and/or training;
  • Exceptional skills in the use of Excel to merge and analyze large datasets (to include pivot tables, VLOOKUPS, macros, etc.);
  • Proven strong research and statistical analysis skills;
  • Experience in SAS, SPSS, STATA, R and/or other statistical reporting tools;
  • Skilled use of SQL, VBA macros, and other data scripting tools to structure queries, tables, views, and reports;
  • Experience with SAS Viya, Tableau, Power BI, or comparable data visualization tools.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to think analytically and exercise judgment to solve problems;
  • Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to effectively manage competing priorities and tasks;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Highly organized and task-oriented;
  • Ability to think and work independently; and
  • Willingness to travel three times per year at a minimum.

Preferred Qualifications
The ideal person serving in this position also possesses/demonstrates the following:
  • Proven experience in the use of SQL, VBA macros, and other data scripting tools to structure queries, tables, views, and reports.
  • Proven experience in data statistical analysis and reporting (regression analysis, chi-square analysis, predictive analysis, etc.);
  • Familiarity with qualitative data and text analytics tools and strategies;
  • Familiarity with data extraction from AZURE, AWS, Oracle, or comparable relational database platforms; and
  • Familiarity and/or trainability related to machine learning, artificial intelligence, and natural language data-use strategies.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Merge, extract, manipulate, analyze and model data from MSM's SIS, LMS, Enterprise Data Warehouse using analytical and statistical tools.
  • Conduct exploratory and structured data analysis and data visualization.
  • Ensure data accuracy and create ad hoc reports.
  • Locate an array of sources and media containing information on a particular subject.
  • Support the development of visualizations, including dashboards, that can be used to inform policy and process improvement decisions.
  • Support teams in the development of outreach or in summarizing data.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Provide support to carry out research and evaluation tasks as assigned.
  • Prepare data summaries and reports on behalf the Director or Outcomes Assessment and OEOA team.
  • Support the OEOA team in the design and administration of perception and stakeholder surveys, helping in the summary of survey results for the purpose of continuous quality improvement.
  • Collaborate with Educational Affairs and Student Affairs personnel, including program and curriculum coordinators, in the development and maintenance of databases and approaches in the advancement of the MSM Assessment Plan and Institutional Effectiveness Plan.
  • Serve as client contact and OEOA representative for analytical expertise.
