Job description

The City of Aurora is accepting applications for seasonal job positions for the Phillips Park Maintenance. Positions are available from approximately March through November.
The Greenhouse Seasonal Workers may work with the Parks greenhouse and landscaping team. Responsible for the day-to-day Greenhouse operations, planting, and flower care within the parks. Working locations could include Parks, Zoo & Golf Course. Positions require working during early morning hours and working outdoors in inclement or extreme weather at times. Shifts could also include evenings and weekends.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Daily watering (could include watering by hand, cart, or water truck).
  • Planting of flowers.
  • Daily care of planted areas & flower beds.
  • Weeding of planted areas and flower beds.
  • Litter & debris removal from planted areas.
  • Ongoing plant health/maintenance/care.
  • Restocking/maintaining plant collections.
  • Troubleshooting/miscellaneous tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Driver's License.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to maneuver carts safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions to perform tasks.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely to perform tasks.
  • Ability to work independently.

Must be able to pass a physical, drug screen, and background investigation.
The hourly wage is $17.29 - $20.64/hour, depending on qualifications.
Seasonal employees may receive preference in consideration for potential promotional opportunities within the City.
