Job Description

The Nursery Manager is responsible for overseeing all nursery operations for a large-scale landscape contractor, ensuring the consistent production and maintenance of high-quality plant material. This role emphasizes strict quality control standards, operational efficiency, and team leadership. The ideal candidate is a fluent Spanish/English bilingual professional capable of effectively managing a diverse workforce while maintaining excellence in plant health, inventory accuracy, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Nursery Operations Management

  • Oversee daily nursery operations including propagation, growing, maintenance, and staging of plant material.
  • Plan and coordinate production schedules to meet project timelines and client demands.
  • Manage irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and seasonal care programs.

Quality Control amp; Assurance (Primary Focus)

  • Establish, enforce, and continuously improve nursery quality standards.
  • Perform routine inspections to ensure all plant material meets company specifications and industry standards.
  • Identify, isolate, and resolve plant health issues such as pests, disease, or nutrient deficiencies.
  • Work closely with project managers to ensure delivered plant material meets contract and aesthetic expectations.
  • Maintain documentation and reporting systems for quality control tracking and audits.

Inventory amp; Procurement

  • Monitor inventory levels and forecast plant material needs based on upcoming projects.
  • Coordinate purchasing with approved vendors, ensuring plant quality and cost efficiency.

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate nursery staff, including field crews and support personnel.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in both English and Spanish to ensure understanding, safety, and productivity.
