Operations Manager – Commercial Landscaping

Stable Branch | Low Turnover | Growth-Oriented Role

Our client is a well-established commercial landscape company with strong leadership, long-tenured teams, and excellent employee retention. They seeking an experienced Operations Manager to support multiple Account Managers and report directly to the Branch Manager. This role is critical to delivering consistent quality, safety, and efficiency across our landscape maintenance, enhancement, and snow operations.

The Operations Manager coordinates activities for assigned jobs and customers while providing hands-on leadership, training, quality control, and operational support at all levels.

Position Overview

The Operations Manager oversees 5–6 crews generating approximately $1.5MM in annual revenue, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and per contract. Crews typically consist of 2–6 team members, with an average crew size of 3–4. This role requires strong field leadership, operational discipline, and the ability to work closely with clients, Account Managers, and Branch leadership.

One Operations Manager may be assigned an enhancement crew, with the ability to rotate between maintenance and enhancements as business needs change.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Crew Management

  • Select, hire, train, and manage field employees

  • Lead, motivate, and direct landscape maintenance, enhancement, and snow crews

  • Assist in recruiting crew members and building strong, reliable teams

  • Conduct performance evaluations and establish goals for each crew

  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and willingness to put in the hours required

Operations & Quality Control

  • Supervise maintenance accounts and ensure work is completed per contract and on schedule

  • Coordinate daily operations, route scheduling, and work assignments

  • Manage tickets, close work orders, and ensure accurate job completion tracking

  • Order materials from established suppliers

  • Participate in seasonal transitions and operational planning

Safety & Equipment Management

  • Schedule and lead weekly safety meetings and training programs directed by the Safety Director

  • Conduct monthly truck and trailer inspections and in-field safety inspections

  • Enforce safe work practices and company safety policies

  • Oversee proper use and care of equipment

  • Equipment replaced on a 3-year cycle; trucks typically 5–7 years old

Administrative & Systems

  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time

  • Manage daily payroll reporting, crew hours, and job costing

  • Support accurate billing and operational reporting

  • Experience with Aspire software is a significant plus

Client & Internal Communication

  • Build strong relationships with existing and new customers

  • Communicate site conditions, issues, and status updates promptly to the Branch Manager and Account Managers

  • Assist Account Managers with scheduling additional work and enhancements

Snow Operations

  • Participate in the full Snow Removal Program—from fall setup through winter execution

  • Oversee snow crews, payroll, hours tracking, and job costing during snow events

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience in the landscape maintenance and/or construction industry

  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to delegate and hold teams accountable

  • Ability to read and execute landscape plans, enhancement plans, and job specifications

  • Working knowledge of landscape equipment

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

  • Commitment to safety and safe work behaviors

  • Ability to work collaboratively and provide/receive constructive feedback
    Preferred

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

  • Prior experience managing crews using Aspire

  • Experience overseeing enhancement work such as drainage, grading, plantings, and seasonal color

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $70,000 – $80,000

  • Annual bonus: Typically 5–15% of base salary, performance-based
