In addition to traditional project delivery methods, we are involved with design build projects and alternative delivery methods. Job Summary-This is a union position. Candidates must be a member of the applicable union or be willing and eligible to join the union as a condition of employment.

The Construction Laborer Grade and Pave will perform tasks involving physical labor at building, highway, and heavy construction projects, tunnel and shaft excavation and demotion sites. May operate hand and power tools of all types; air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying, and measuring equipment and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove asbestos, lead, and other hazardous waste materials

Typical Duties

  • Operate jackhammers and drills to break up concrete and pavement
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
  • Tend pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tolls, machinery, and equipment or to heat and move materials such as asphalt
  • Lubricate, clean, and repair machinery, equipment, and tools
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
  • Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes
  • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools and distribute them to appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications
  • Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed
  • Provide assistance to other craft workers, such as carpenters, masons, and operators
  • Raise structures and salvage useful materials
  • The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, and carry objects up to 50lbs of weight
  • Perform general physical activities that may include climbing, lifting, balance, walking, stopping, or kneeling. This job requires standing, kneeling, and bending for long periods of time
  • Use either control mechanisms or direct contact to operate machines or process
  • Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment to detect or assess problems
  • Maintain a safety-first culture and actively participate in the Safety Buck program

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED preferred

Reasoning Ability: apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions. Deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
