Next Level Solutions is honored to recruit on behalf of one of our amazing local clientsโ€”a hands-on civil engineering firm specializing in Civil 3D, Land Development, and Grading/Drainage/Utilities for commercial and residential site design. This team offers broad, end-to-end project exposure (feasibility through construction), a collaborative low-bureaucracy environment, and the chance to work closely with experienced engineers and leadership while making visible, meaningful impact.

Position Overview

We're recruiting a Senior Civil Site Design Engineer to lead civil site design and land development projects for commercial and residential real estate development. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys taking ownership of technically complex work, guiding project teams, collaborating directly with clients and consultants, and delivering high-quality permit and construction documents from concept through construction support.

This is an in-office position designed for close collaboration with the project team and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Design

  • Lead civil site design for commercial and residential land development projects from early planning through construction administration

  • Oversee the production of complete civil construction document sets including site layout, grading, drainage, utilities (storm, sanitary, water), erosion and sediment control, and details

  • Design stormwater management systems including detention/retention facilities, water quality BMPs, and associated analyses in accordance with applicable regulations

  • Perform and/or oversee advanced engineering calculations including hydrology/hydraulics modeling, storm sewer design, sanitary sewer analysis, earthwork, and pavement design (as required)

  • Conduct technical reviews and QA/QC of plans, reports, and permit submittals to ensure accuracy and constructability

  • Support site feasibility and due diligence assessments, conceptual planning, and preliminary infrastructure evaluations

Project & Client Management

  • Lead project delivery by managing scope, schedule, budget, and coordination across internal team members and external stakeholders

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients on assigned projects, providing proactive communication and technical guidance

  • Coordinate with multi-discipline consultants including survey, architecture, geotechnical, traffic, environmental, and landscape teams

  • Support entitlement and permitting processes with municipalities and reviewing agencies, including responses to plan review comments

  • Participate in meetings, presentations, andโ€”when applicableโ€”public hearings and board meetings

  • Provide construction-phase support including RFIs, submittal/shop drawing reviews, field coordination, and site visits

Team Leadership

  • Provide mentorship and technical direction to junior and mid-level engineering staff

  • Contribute to workload planning, training, and continuous improvement of technical standards and processes

  • Support proposal development, scopes, and fee estimates as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (Master's a plus)

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe, if applicable)

  • 10+ years of progressive civil site/land development design experience (commercial and/or residential)

  • Demonstrated experience leading projects and coordinating multi-discipline teams

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (grading, corridors, pipe networks, surface modeling)

  • Strong knowledge of hydrology/hydraulic modeling tools (HydroCAD, StormCAD, SWMM, ICPR, or similar)

  • Working knowledge of land development regulations, zoning, and stormwater/permitting requirements

  • Strong communication skills (client-facing experience preferred) and solid technical writing ability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large-scale residential communities, mixed-use, or phased commercial developments

  • Business development experience and/or strong client relationship management background

  • Familiarity with sustainable site design, green infrastructure, or LID practices

  • CFM or CPESC certification

  • Proficiency in GIS, Bluebeam Revu, and project management tools
