Quality Lead (AWS/CWI)

Location: Georgia Power Hydro Sites – Columbus/Lakemont, GA- Travel Required

Contract- 3 Years

Client- Southern Company.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Quality Lead to provide construction quality oversight across Georgia Power Hydro sites as part of the Hydro Modernization Program. This role will be filled as QCA3 or QCA2 depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience. The position requires travel between sites to ensure all work is executed to the highest quality standards, in compliance with applicable codes and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Planning & Oversight
    • Assist project management with the development and implementation of the project quality plan.
    • Provide oversight of onsite contractors, ensuring work complies with specifications, codes, and quality standards.
    • Develop and maintain surveillance schedules to ensure continuous quality monitoring.
  • Inspections & Documentation
    • Perform required surveillances, audits, and quality checks on construction activities.
    • Review inspection and test plans for accuracy and compliance.
    • Ensure contractor quality documentation meets project and regulatory requirements.
  • Project Support
    • Participate in pre-bid, pre-mob, and contractor meetings to confirm understanding of quality requirements.
    • Support construction management with preventative maintenance activities.
    • Review and redline engineering drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure compliance.
  • Compliance & Standards
    • Apply knowledge of industry standards to verify proper implementation.
    • Identify hold points and witness points during construction and ensure compliance is documented.
    • Report non-conformances and recommend corrective actions.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • 4-year technical degree in Engineering, Construction, or related discipline preferred.
    • Equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years in construction quality assurance or quality control oversight, preferably in hydro or power generation projects.
    • Experience with weld inspection, mapping, and quality surveillances strongly preferred.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
    • CWI/AWS certification required.
    • AMPP/NACE certification a plus.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of QA/QC processes, inspection strategies, and methodologies.
    • Familiarity with welding, coatings, and materials inspections.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
    • Self-starter with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Work Environment

  • Primarily field-based with regular travel between multiple hydro sites.
  • Requires working in industrial and construction environments, adhering to strict safety protocols.
  • Must be flexible and proactive to support emergent site needs.
