Job description

The duties of the position may include, but are not limited to:
  • Follow blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions. Operates manual lathes, mills, grinders, boring mills, and other precision machine tools. Programs and operates CNC (computer numerically controlled) lathes, mills, grinders, boring mills, and other precision machinery.
  • Assemble, install, overhaul, refurbish, repair, align, and document repairs to items such as: thermal and hydro-powered turbine generators, pumping equipment and similar types of complex mechanical equipment used throughout the Department.
  • Dismantle, inspect, measure, and document findings on items such as: thermal and hydro-powered turbine generators, pumping equipment and similar types of complex mechanical equipment used throughout the Department.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and documentation, including time records, equipment maintenance and repair logs, repair procedures, dimensional measurements, and sketches used for equipment fabrication and repair.
  • Operate work vehicles to travel between shop facilities and field job sites.
  • Ascend and descend ladders, stairways, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms to access equipment, machinery, and work areas throughout facilities and job sites.

Performs other related duties as necessary.
Candidates will be evaluated for the following work-related skills, knowledge, abilities, and other qualifications by interview or other means, as specified:
  • Knowledge and experience in metal fabrication.
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze job related problems and to develop practical and innovative solutions.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deal tactfully with others.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of personal computer.
  • Ability to work independently.

Due consideration will be given to relevant work experience, education, and attendance record. This position is subject to overtime, call-out, travel, out-of-town work, weekend work, night shift, and/or reassignment based on operation needs.
A valid California driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be
maintained while employed.
