Position Overview:

This position directly supports the Defense Fuels mission space by enabling reliable, high ‑ speed data acquisition and integrated controls across critical fuel infrastructure, ensuring secure and compliant operations where high ‑ speed LabVIEW systems interface with low ‑ speed PLC ‑ controlled platforms to maintain mission readiness. The engineer leads development of high ‑ speed LabVIEW data acquisition and control systems, ensures synchronized communication, data integrity, and reliability across multi ‑ platform control architectures, and provides engineering support for a diverse range of test operations, from small benchtop setups to large ‑ scale industrial qualification stands. An active DOE Q clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one, is required.

On-site in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Your Day to Day as a LabVIEW Systems Engineer:
  • Architect, develop, and maintain LabVIEW applications for high-speed data acquisition and real-time control.
  • Design communication bridges between high-speed LabVIEW systems and low-speed PLC platforms.
  • Collaborate with PLC engineers to align LabVIEW logic with interlocks, alarming, and I/O management.
  • Prepare wiring diagrams, loop sheets, channel maps, and system documentation.
  • Coordinate with vendors and generate technical reports.
  • Implement software configuration management for LabVIEW, FPGA, and test automation code.
  • Lead automation initiatives using Python, MATLAB, and AI-supported engineering processes.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide engineering design, troubleshooting, and commissioning support across multiple test stands of varying scale and complexity.
Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering or Physics or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with LabVIEW development and test system integration.
  • Experience coordinating LabVIEW applications with PLC-controlled systems.
  • Experience supporting both small-scale and large-scale automated test stands.
  • Experience designing and validating automated test stands or instrumentation systems.
  • Excellent technical communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • NI CLD or CLA certification.
  • Experience with LabVIEW RT/FPGA and deterministic data streaming.
  • Familiarity with PlantPAx, FactoryTalk, OPC UA, Modbus, and industrial networks.
  • Knowledge of ISA standards, SIS concepts, PHA, NFPA, and NEC codes.
  • Experience applying AI/ML in test or industrial automation systems.

Pay: $86,450- $136,000

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $86,450 and $136,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
