Senior Labview Developer information

What is a Senior LabVIEW Developer?

Senior LabVIEW Developers are experienced software engineers who specialize in using the LabVIEW graphical programming environment to design, develop, and maintain automated test, measurement, and control systems. They often lead projects, mentor junior developers, and ensure solutions meet technical and business requirements. Their expertise includes advanced LabVIEW architectures, hardware integration, and often certification such as NI Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) or Architect (CLA). Senior LabVIEW Developers are commonly found in industries like electronics, manufacturing, and research, where precise data acquisition and automation are critical.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior LabVIEW Developer?

A Senior LabVIEW Developer should have advanced proficiency in LabVIEW programming, strong knowledge of test and measurement systems, and a relevant engineering or computer science degree. Familiarity with National Instruments hardware, certification such as Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) or Architect (CLA), and experience with version control systems are typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies ensure efficient development of robust automated test solutions, seamless integration with hardware, and clear collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

How does a Senior LabVIEW Developer typically collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams?

Senior LabVIEW Developers frequently work alongside hardware, test, and firmware engineers to design, implement, and refine automated test solutions. They are often responsible for translating complex test requirements into robust LabVIEW code, ensuring seamless data acquisition and integration within multi-disciplinary projects. Effective communication and documentation are key, as Senior Developers must often guide junior team members, participate in code reviews, and contribute to system architecture discussions. This collaborative environment fosters both technical growth and strong teamwork skills.

What is the difference between Senior Labview Developer vs Test Engineer?

AspectSenior Labview DeveloperTest Engineer
Required credentialsBachelor's in Engineering, certifications in LabVIEWBachelor's in Engineering, certifications in testing or quality assurance
Work environmentDesigning and developing LabVIEW applications, embedded systemsTesting hardware/software, developing test plans, troubleshooting
Industry usageAutomation, measurement, control systemsManufacturing, electronics, aerospace

While both roles often require engineering backgrounds and technical certifications, Senior Labview Developers focus on creating and maintaining LabVIEW-based systems, whereas Test Engineers concentrate on testing and quality assurance processes. The roles may overlap in industries like aerospace and automation, but their core responsibilities differ significantly.

10 months Contract to Hire

Position Overview

The Cyclotron and Chemistry Solutions (CCS) group provides Molecular Imaging with products and solutions to build the infrastructure for making PET Biomarkers from Discovery to Production and Distribution. The CCS group produces particle accelerators used to make isotopes relevant to PET imaging and chemistry synthesis modules to create radiolabeled imaging agents. Over 200 units of the Eclipse11 MeV, negative ion cyclotron from Siemens are being operated in all corners of the globe for PET radioisotope production. The CCS Engineering and Development group is a small, focused, interdisciplinary team further developing the capacity of our accelerator and chemistry synthesis platforms to increase our ability to deliver isotopes and biomarkers to our customers.

CCS is looking for a senior systems engineer to join the R&D team. You will work with a cross-functional team throughout the product lifecycle to design, develop, test and integrate hardware and software for a variety of applications including accelerator control systems, subsystem control, RF systems, and data handling. The ideal candidate will have an electrical engineering education with knowledge and experience on both hardware and software platforms, as well as experience developing software applications, especially in LabVIEW.

In conjunction with CCS colleagues, capture engineering project requirements, including modifications and upgrades, as a result of either specific customer needs or pro-active product improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the CCS engineering team to architect, develop, integrate and test designs for prototype and production systems
  • Develop hardware and software specifications, test plans and other required design related documentation
  • Develop industrial test and HMI applications in LabVIEW following defined software development methodologies.
  • Develop industrial control applications in C on real-time OS (Linux, VxWorks).
  • Implement designs and test systems using engineering documentation.
  • Monitor industry practices to identify applicable processes, products and materials that can deliver improvements in engineering solutions for maintenance, incident repairs and development activities.
  • Work closely with engineers and technicians from multiple disciplines
Qualifications

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

In order to accomplish everything above, we are looking for someone with the following capabilities:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical or Systems Engineering
  • Experience with LabVIEW, Test Stand and other NI technologies
  • Experience with embedded systems development in C - embedded Linux and bare metal MCU firmware
  • Knowledge and experience with electrical instrumentation and controls design, including developing electrical schematics, PC board layouts, and wiring diagrams
  • Experience working and/or leading efforts that require hardware and software requirements definition and analysis, architecture definition, design, implementation and test
  • Experience writing extensive project documentation and executing complex system testing
  • Ability to grasp new technical concepts including hardware/software interactions, real-time processing and controls
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • 3+ years of experience defining test plans and documentation
  • Self-starter with good interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and with a team

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
