Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Reliability Test and Failure Analysis Engineer
Location: Beverly, MA
Job Type: Full-time
Job Summary:
Axcelis Technologies is seeking a motivated hands-on Reliability and Failure Analysis Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will develop and execute test plans to ensure our products, processes, and systems to meet semiconductor industry's reliability standards and best practices. This position will interact with Product, HW, SW and Quality Team to ensure that our products meet and/or exceed customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, guide, and create test methods and procedures for new and existing technologies.
  • Own the product or test stand for continued testing for functionality, reliability and robustness on NPI products
    • Serve as the primary technical owner for assigned test stands and Lab assets
    • Define equipment requirements, configurations, and test capabilities
    • Maintain test stand hardware, software, instrumentation, and supporting documentation
    • Manage lifecycle activities including maintenance, upgrades and replacement recommendations
    • Ensure test procedures, work instructions, and acceptance criteria are defined and followed
    • Support troubleshooting of test failures, instrumentation issues, and data collection problems
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop/update test methodologies.
  • Develop and perform the Reliability test plans and protocols.
  • Perform bench top testing and develop fixturing as needed.
  • Perform failure Analysis of electro-mechanical modules/components within ion implanter solutions.
  • Work with HW and SW design teams to analyze symptoms or logs in the event of product failures leading to root causes.
  • Analyze failed units to find root cause and validate preventive actions.
  • Generate Failure Analysis(FA) test reports to be used for communicating issues and root causes.
  • Develop methods to identify critical potential failure modes and prevent/fix prior to new product launches.
  • Support cross functional teams to perform DFMEA in early life cycle phase and recommend design changes.
  • Program manage Axcelis Reliability and Failure Analysis Lab assets which includes test chambers/tables, test stands and failure analysis resources
  • Schedule intake and exit of the test activities in collaboration with Product Reliability and Validation team
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential functional or reliability issues.
  • Maintain accurate records, calibration and documentation of test and failure analysis activities.

Qualifications:
  • BS/MS in ME, EE or Reliability Engineering or equivalent
  • Cumulative 3+ year experience in electrical design, reliability, or failure analysis.
  • Experience with robotic products or semiconductor products in general
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Eagerness to learn and grow within the team

Preferred Skills:
  • Hands-on experience with operation and maintenance of the test stands, thermal and humidity test chambers and shock/vibration tables
  • Experience with data acquisition applications including LabView programming.
  • Experience with optical/digital microscopy, fractography, sample mounting and sample preparation.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in materials characterization and spectroscopy techniques (e.g., FTIR, XRF, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of industry standards including SEMI standards
  • First-hand experience in sourcing, bringing up, and maintenance of a newly created Reliability and Failure Analysis laboratory.

U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE
$156,685.60 - $235,028.40
This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations.
Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay is determined based on
multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work
location, and internal equity. The range provides the opportunity for growth and progression as
you develop within the role.
Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the
Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package (for regular
employees working 20+ hours a week).
