Overview

Amentum Advanced Solutions (AS) is a performance unit of Amentum Engineering & Technology. AS specializes in developing, designing, constructing, and operating complex research and development, scientific, and test facilities, including wind tunnels, rocket test stands, climatic chambers, jet engine test cells, acoustic chambers, altitude test facilities, and nuclear facilities. Clients include Audi, Boeing, BMW, Ford, General Motors, NASA, the U.S. Air Force, and many others.

Position Summary

The role is for an Intermediate Level Controls & Instrumentation Engineer who will support projects ranging from small studies to multi‑million dollar turnkey supply. The candidate must be team‑oriented, organized, communicative at all levels, and able to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for control and data acquisition systems.
  • Create control system software designs for temperature, pressure, humidity, flow, force, motion, safety, and other advanced process and electromechanical systems.
  • Program control system software in PLC ladder logic, function block, HMI programming, etc.
  • Develop interfaces to facility equipment using hardwired interfaces and industrial networks.
  • Apply closed‑loop control methods, both classical and modern, to continuously variable systems.
  • Provide quality system processes such as checking the work of others, following standard procedures, and ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
  • Support hardware assembly and fabrication.
  • Provide on‑site team direction of facility startup, checkout, and commissioning activities, domestically and abroad.
  • Communicate with clients and management regarding project status.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and departments to ensure success.
  • Estimate system design, material, installation, checkout, commissioning, and activation of projects.
  • Plan labor resources and schedule project milestones to meet technical scope, budget, and client schedule.
  • Develop proposals to capture future work with current clients and new markets.
  • Lead control and data acquisition projects through all phases, including design, fabrication, implementation, testing, and commissioning.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in control or data acquisition system design, implementation, and commissioning.
  • Professional Engineer registration in good standing is a plus.
  • Experienced software developer in a high‑level language such as C/C++/C# or with an engineering application tool such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, SIMULINK, or SIMSCAPE.
  • Experienced PLC and HMI software developer in one of the major environments (e.g., Rockwell Software Studio 5000, SIEMENS TIA Portal, Emerson PCME) with working knowledge of other environments.
  • Experience selecting, specifying, and procuring process instrumentation and actuation hardware, control and data acquisition system hardware, PLCs, drive and motion systems, automation network hardware, interconnect cabling, and supporting equipment.
  • Solid math background for data‑uncertainty calculations, digital filter algorithms, control transfer‑function realizations, and process simulation.
  • Ability to lead single and multi‑discipline engineering teams to deliver technically successful control and data systems.
  • Experience mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Desire to develop innovative alternative approaches to challenges and drive innovation during all phases of projects.

  • Maneuver in and around facility equipment for field measurements or troubleshooting (10‑20%).
  • Proximity to extreme temperature variations and rotating equipment (under 10%).
  • Exposure to high noise levels (10‑20%).
  • Proximity to electrical circuits up to 480VAC (5‑15%).
  • Use of personal protective equipment, including eye protection, hearing protection, and arc‑flash protection (5‑15%).
Work Environment
  • Office, laboratory environment, or indoor construction site (over 80%).
  • Field work outside (10‑20%).
  • Travel to customer sites for meetings, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting (over 30%).
Compensation

$110,800 to $150,000 (range may vary based on responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, and applicable laws).
