Labview Developer Contract information

What is a Labview developer contract?

A LabVIEW Developer Contract job is a temporary or project-based role where a developer designs, develops, and maintains software applications using NI LabVIEW. These roles are typically found in industries like automation, test and measurement, and embedded systems. Contractors may work independently or as part of a team to create custom solutions for data acquisition, control systems, and instrumentation. The contract length can vary, ranging from a few months to a year or more, depending on the project's scope.

What are typical responsibilities for a Labview developer contract?

As a contract LabVIEW Developer, your primary responsibilities usually include designing, developing, and testing automation scripts or applications in LabVIEW to support engineering or production needs. You may also troubleshoot and maintain existing LabVIEW codebases, interface with hardware components, and collaborate closely with engineers and other technical staff to define requirements and deliver solutions. Projects often vary in scope and duration, providing exposure to diverse challenges and environments. Contractors are expected to manage their own workloads and deliver results within agreed project timelines, often adapting quickly to new tools and client-specific standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed for a Labview developer contract?

A LabVIEW Developer Contract role requires strong proficiency in LabVIEW programming, experience with automated test and measurement systems, and a degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with National Instruments hardware, TestStand, and relevant certifications such as NI Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) are highly valued. Effective problem-solving, clear communication, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively help contractors excel in project-driven environments. These skills ensure accurate, efficient delivery of custom automation solutions to support engineering and testing objectives.

Job description

We are looking to bring in a Product Test Engineer to support our test equipment deployment to various manufacturing and contract manufacturing sites and support in identifying testing improvement and solutions to our internal test development team. This person will work with the rest of the organization to identify gaps in test coverage, perform initial root cause analysis on failed products and support in implementing changes necessary to ensure product quality. A strong Product Test Engineer will need to have a proven track record of performing root cause analysis on field or manufacturing defect failures with a background in integration and sustainment.

What You'll Do
  • Own manufacturing test strategy and coverage across product development, NPI, and production.
  • Drive improvements in manufacturing test architecture, automation, scalability, reliability, and production readiness.
  • Design, integrate, troubleshoot, and sustain automated manufacturing test systems consisting of instrumentation, fixtures, custom electronics, and software.
  • Serve as the primary Product Test Engineering representative at the Ohio manufacturing site, driving technical decisions and supporting manufacturing operations with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Independently prioritize, manage, and execute multiple manufacturing test initiatives while collaborating with Design, Quality, Manufacturing, and Operations teams.
  • Lead manufacturing test deployments, factory bring-up, and sustainment activities at internal and contract manufacturing sites.
  • Mentor technicians and provide technical guidance to future Product Test Engineers as the Ohio team grows.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience developing, deploying, or sustaining automated manufacturing test systems for electronic products.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers in the testing and validation of PCBA and electronic assemblies.
  • Hands-on experience developing automated test applications in LabVIEW is required. Experience with Python and/or C# is highly desired.
  • Familiarity with electronics test equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, digital multimeters, function generators, data acquisition systems, and measurement instrumentation.
  • Strong root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills for electrical, electromechanical, and manufacturing test systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals including analog and digital circuits, power electronics, communication interfaces, signal integrity, and system-level debugging.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of ownership, make sound engineering decisions independently, and effectively represent Product Test Engineering at a remote manufacturing site.
  • Ability to travel and support manufacturing test integration, commissioning, deployment, and sustainment activities at domestic and international manufacturing sites as required.
  • Comfortable with up to 25% travel.
  • This role will be temporarily based out of our HQ in Costa Mesa, CA for 1 month of training.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret SCI security clearance.
Preferred Qualification:
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience in manufacturing test engineering.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience developing automated manufacturing test systems using LabVIEW, NI TestStand, or similar test automation frameworks.
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), manufacturing transfers, and production ramp activities.
  • Experience troubleshooting analog, digital, mixed-signal, power electronics, battery/BMS, or embedded hardware systems.
  • Experience designing or debugging manufacturing test fixtures, interface hardware, and automated test equipment.
  • Experience working with production yield analysis, statistical process control (SPC), and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Previous experience serving as the primary engineering support for a manufacturing site or product line.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or technicians and leading cross-functional technical projects.
  • Previous leadership or people management experience is a plus and will be considered for future site leadership opportunities.
