PURPOSE OF DIVISION
The purpose of the Houston Airport System (HAS) Maintenance, Insource Maintenance Services, business unit is to effectively deliver self-performed maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of the Semi-Skilled-Insource Maintenance Services, is to ensure that the facilities, equipment, structures and utilities are constructed, installed, and maintained in a manner commensurate with maximizing value to our customers. Functions are performed in a manner which applies the most innovation and appropriate engineering and financial principles within the three HAS airports.
"Candidates must be able to obtain all security required badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within 6 months from the hire date."
The SEMI-SKILLED LABORER responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Performs basic maintenance and repairs to structures, facilities, and equipment, i.e., housekeeping activities, fabrication and installations, routine cleaning and servicing of vehicles, and cement mixing and preparation
  • Operates power and hand tool equipment
  • Performs basic painting, roofing, carpentry, and plumbing activities
  • May operate vehicles to and from work locations
  • Monitors inventory control
  • Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires extensive, near-continuous physical exertion such as repeated lifting of very heavy objects (more than 80 pounds), deep bending, climbing steps and/or assuming awkward positions. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. No special knowledge of any subject area or technical field is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six months of working experience are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid Texas Class C driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
