Laborer – Grounds Maintenance

Location: Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico
Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

GENCO General Contractors of P.R. Corp. is seeking a reliable and hardworking Laborer – Grounds Maintenance to support our grounds maintenance operations at Fort Buchanan. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining lawns, landscaped areas, recreational areas, facilities, and other outdoor spaces to ensure they remain clean, safe, well-maintained, and visually appealing.

This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work, operate landscaping equipment and hand tools safely, and work effectively outdoors under varying weather conditions.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesGroundskeeping & Landscaping
  • Operate walking-type and riding lawn mowers weighing less than 2,000 pounds.
  • Mow and maintain lawns and landscaped areas.
  • Trim hedges and edges around walkways, flowerbeds, curbs, and other areas using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools.
  • Prune shrubs and trees using shears, hand tools, and other appropriate equipment.
  • Plant and maintain grass, flowers, trees, shrubs, and other vegetation.
  • Water lawns, trees, shrubs, and landscaped areas using hoses or sprinkler systems.
  • Apply fertilizers, insecticides, and other approved lawn and landscaping treatments as required.
  • Collect and properly dispose of leaves, litter, branches, grass clippings, and other debris.
  • Maintain landscaped areas, athletic fields, playgrounds, and other assigned grounds.
Seasonal Maintenance
  • Perform seasonal grounds maintenance activities as required by the project.
Repairs & General Maintenance
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance to fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, outbuildings, and related structures.
  • Assist with repairs and general maintenance of roads, sidewalks, buildings, and mechanical equipment.
  • Report damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, or maintenance issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
Cleaning & Sanitation
  • Clean and maintain comfort stations, offices, workshops, parking areas, and other assigned facilities.
  • Sweep, wash, mop, and polish floors and surfaces as required.
  • Remove trash and debris from assigned work areas.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
Qualifications
  • Ability to safely operate lawn mowers, landscaping equipment, and basic hand tools.
  • Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance, landscaping practices, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions, safety requirements, and established procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and working for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely handle and work around fertilizers, insecticides, and other landscaping-related chemicals.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, lawn care, facilities maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience operating landscaping equipment is a plus.
  • Experience working in commercial, industrial, military, or government facilities is a plus.
Work Environment
  • Primarily outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Position may require exposure to heat, rain, dust, noise, vegetation, insects, and landscaping-related chemicals.
  • Employees are expected to follow all applicable safety requirements and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
