Position Overview

General concrete laborers assist in the construction of precast concrete sewer structures. Tasks are completed in a covered plant environment that is fast paced, loud/noisy, and open to outdoor elements including extreme summer heat and seasonal cold temperatures. This position works in areas with heavy moving equipment and hazardous chemicals, and the use of personal protective safety equipment is required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pouring, spreading, leveling, and smoothing concrete materials.
  • Applying surface treatments such as troweling, edging, and release agents.
  • Preparing the worksite and assembling concrete forms.
  • Loading and unloading materials, supplies, and work tools.
  • Maintaining and adhering to strict safety standards.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized facility and job site.
  • Completing assigned tasks in accordance with production schedules.
  • Assists in completing set up and cleanup tasks prior to and after maintenance work.
  • Adheres to all O.S.H.A. safety standards, rules, and regulations including use of personal protective/safety equipment while on plant grounds.
  • Adheres to all company safety standards.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned by management.


Requirements:

Physical Demands

  • Ability to frequently move heavy objects, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, and moving objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Must be able to frequently tolerate repetitive movement and motion including standing, climbing, walking, twisting, turning, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Exposure to working outside in extreme weather conditions; cold in the winter and extreme heat in the summer.
  • Continuous exposure to high heat, high cold, loud noise, and outdoor working conditions
  • Tolerance to moderate noise levels.
  • Ability to talk, hear, read, and understand verbal and written communications, and carry out job tasks safely around heavy rolling equipment.
  • Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must wear personal protective/safety equipment while on plant grounds.
  • Fast paced environment.

Education, and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and one year of work experience in the manufacturing industry utilizing hands-on technical skills and production processes.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be punctual and available to work overtime.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and the ability to follow directions and complete tasks on schedule.
