Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Quality Specialist, Pathology.
With guidance from the Clinical Lab leadership team and the QA Manager, will be responsible for proficiency test management and timely follow up. The individual actively compiles, monitors, and interprets quality assurance data as it relates to errors within the department.
This individual is responsible for working with staff, supervisors, managers, and pathologists to facilitate problem resolution for cases with non-conformances. The individual will also tabulate and analyze quality data associated with non-conformances.
Job Responsibilities:
    1. Proficiency Testing: Oversees proficiency testing distribution, performance, result review, and follow up action if necessary.
    2. Data Compilation: Compiles laboratory data requested for monthly QA presentations
    3. Non-conformances: Tracks and records errors, creates isolated event reports, and reports in the NYU Hospitals Center Patient Safety Reporting system (PSI). Provides timely resolution and feedback to relevant personnel for reported non-conformances.
    4. Performs follow up audits to assess compliance with corrective actions as requested by Quality Manager.
    5. Assist with conducting regulatory audits.
    6. Special projects: Assists Administrative Director and Medical Directors as requested and assists with additional special projects as indicated by the Director, Quality Systems.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
  • NYS technician or technologist license.
  • Excellent communication skills and must be proficient in data entry, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement methodology and practices.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
