Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with a leading healthcare organization to identify a Laboratory Operations Manager to oversee laboratory operations across multiple regional emergency department laboratory locations in the Dayton area.

This leadership role is responsible for managing daily laboratory operations, supporting and developing staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining high standards of quality and patient care. The ideal candidate is a collaborative laboratory leader who enjoys balancing operational oversight with hands-on technical support when needed.

The Role You'll Play:
Leadership & Staff Development
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support for laboratory personnel across multiple laboratory locations.
  • Communicate priorities, workflow expectations, and staffing assignments to ensure efficient operations.
  • Develop schedules and staffing plans to maintain appropriate coverage and staff competency.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and professional development initiatives.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative culture while providing coaching, mentoring, and performance management when appropriate.
  • Manage employee timekeeping, attendance, and related documentation.
Laboratory Operations
  • Maintain technical competency and perform bench testing as needed.
  • Participate in weekend and holiday coverage based on operational needs.
  • Troubleshoot technical and operational issues while coordinating timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with physicians, healthcare providers, and internal departments to support quality patient care.
  • Assist with departmental budgeting, expense management, and workforce planning.
  • Ensure laboratory operations remain efficient, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance
  • Support quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain readiness for CAP and other regulatory inspections.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ensure timely completion of required documentation and compliance activities.
Documentation & Education
  • Assist with the development, maintenance, and revision of laboratory policies, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Support document control processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in training laboratory students, new employees, and existing staff while promoting ongoing professional development.
Safety & Collaboration
  • Promote a strong culture of laboratory safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control, PPE, and occupational safety standards.
  • Build strong working relationships with laboratory staff, physicians, vendors, and cross-functional healthcare teams.

What You'll Bring:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related laboratory science field.
  • ASCP certification (MLT or MLS/MT) preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of progressive leadership experience within a clinical laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team development skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities with sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple laboratory locations and support operations across various shifts as needed.
  • Experience with clinical laboratory quality systems and regulatory compliance is strongly preferred.
