Job description

POSITION PURPOSE
The Laboratory Assistant position is responsible for performing phlebotomy duties on inpatients and outpatients, including vein-puncture, capillary puncture and specimen processing. Manages specimen accessioning accurately and efficiently to provide quality specimens for laboratory testing. Responsible for performing clerical tasks to accommodate timely and accurate laboratory testing and support department operations.
MINIMUM MANDATORY qualifications
Experience:
  • No experience necessary.
Education:
  • High school diploma or High School Equivalency Test (HSE) required.
Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications:
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft and laboratory information systems is required. Knowledge of Meditech preferred.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Knowledge of the front-end revenue cycle process, including patient registration, government and commercial insurance processes.
