Engineering Assistant Intern
Position Summary:
Geotechnical Engineering Assistant Intern position available immediately at our Fort Myers office. This role supports the engineering team with hands-on tasks, documentation, testing, and basic design work, and provides practical experience with engineering processes, tools, and project workflows under the supervision of licensed engineers. Hours vary with workload; schedule flexibility is available to accommodate students.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Assist staff engineers with project tasks and coordination.
  • Assist with or conduct field and laboratory testing of soil, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt following established procedures.
  • Enter, organize, and summarize field and laboratory data.
  • Prepare technical documents, figures, and calculations.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies, keep work areas safe, and follow safety procedures.
  • Participate in on - the - job training and mentoring.

Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in (or recent graduate of) a civil engineering, material or environmental science or related program.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong abilities in mathematics, basic engineering software, and data/file organization.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds periodically (samples, test equipment).
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork, including walking over uneven terrain and climbing in/out of trenches.
  • Sufficient visual acuity to read instruments, drawings, and computer screens.

Work Environment / Environment Factors:
  • Occasional weekend hours may be required.
  • Duties are performed under the supervision of licensed engineers and may be split between field locations, laboratory, and office settings.
  • Fieldwork may include construction sites, active roadways, remote locations, and exposure to dust, noise, vibrations, and variable outdoor weather conditions.
  • Soils and concrete laboratory environments may generate dust from samples and noise from equipment.
  • Must comply with PPE requirements (hard hat, safety boots, high-visibility vest, gloves, eye protection, etc.) as required.
