Job description

Summary

Under the direction of the study coordinator or principal investigator and his assistants, assist in enrolling patients in educational, lifestyle, and pharmacological intervention research studies.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Contact patients as required after initial contact to obtain additional information

  • Screen patients for cardiovascular procedures that may produce research-relevant tissue

  • Coordinate patient visits to clinic. Organize study participant charts and files, and distribute to appropriate location

  • Collect required data from study coordinators and research nurses, and enter onto clinical research forms and into computerized database

  • Perform routine laboratory experiments for clinical studies as directed. This includes ultrasounds and other non-invasive measurements of blood vessel function. The employee will be trained to perform all of these techniques.

  • Compile outreach packets, recruitment, and specimen collection kits

  • Verify accuracy of bills and stipends

  • Generate letters to be sent to study participants

  • Provide general clerical support to investigators

  • Order and maintain log of stipend checks and/or gift certificates to be distributed to study participants

  • Obtain informed consent for tissue banking before procedures (bedside or by phone call), often in very early morning studies (as early as 5:30am)

  • Analyze and coordinate non-invasive measurements of blood vessel function. The employee will be trained to perform all of these techniques.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management. Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: High school

Minimum Required Experience: 1 year

Preferred Education: College Degree

Preferred Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare-related position

Certification: CITI training within first two weeks of hire

Physical Requirements

Work involves light exertion transporting materials or equipment but not for sustained time.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
