Accountable for the quality of patient care in the areas of respiratory therapy and polysomnography.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Must have Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) Certification through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.
2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
3. Associate of Science Degree in Health Allied Field or Respiratory Care
EXPERIENCE:
1. Five (5) years' of experience as a registered sleep tech.
2. One (1) year of supervisory experience.

CORE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates the delivery of patient care in accordance with the policy and procedures, philosophy and mission.
2. Develops, implements, and supports strategies for the delivery of quality patient care based on the requirements of the medical service while achieving positive patient relations in a teaching environment.
3. Coordinates and evaluates all elements of clinical, financial, material, and human resources (HR) in the provision of sleep evaluation services. Requires effective communication with medical staff, hospital administration, and healthcare providers
4. Ensures adequate technical staffing coverage for the lab following established productivity standards. Activates problem resolution and troubleshooting actions to prevent patient procedural delays. Performs service recovery as needed. Acts in the absence of the Director.
5. Communicates with the Director all sleep center team performance matters. Conducts performance management and progressive discipline when needed. Works along the Director in terms of hiring, retention, interviewing, and recruitment of staff. Coaches and counsels sleep center team as needed.
6. Performs monthly operational budget variance analysis/reporting and is responsible for overall financial performance of cost center.
7. Assures cost effective staffing patterns, schedules and appropriately utilizes staff. Reviews trends with the Director
8. Responsible for the meeting and maintaining the sleep evaluation center AASM accreditation standards.
9. Collaborates with medical staff and other personnel in promoting and planning optimal patient care. Collaborates regularly with physicians and ancillary service providers to review practices, services and resolve issues.
10. Reviews set-ups and calibrations of monitoring equipment; measurement and application of appropriate EEG, EKG, and EOG monitoring electrodes; placement of recording transducers to measure airflow, respiratory effort, and oximetry.
11. Demonstrates accurate and efficient scoring of the polysomnogram, summarizing sleep/wake periods, REM episodes, arousal analysis, EEG phenomena, cardiac events, respiratory events, limb movements, and other physiological events according to current guidelines. Ensures that the polysomnogram is appropriately prepared for physician interpretation.
12. Describes normal and abnormal clinical manifestations observed during the procedure.
13. Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to polysomnographic studies in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.
14. Supports staff by promoting problem solving, peer review, team building, and by displaying the highest professional standards. Serves as the professional role model for the polysomnographic techs.
15. Performs Quality Assurance functions for the Sleep Lab including equipment and staff.
16. Maintains proficiency in use of polysomnographic equipment.
17. Develops relevant departmental policies and procedures.
18. Promotes and contributes positively to organizational relationships
19. Resolves patient care issues as identified. Reviews outcomes and evaluates operational systems to ensure ongoing improvement.
