Location: 5101 North Parkway Conroe TX 77303
Civil Service: Yes
Shift Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm
Education, Experience and Skill Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

• Bachelor's degree in relatable field preferred
• Prior experience as an autopsy assistant preferred
• Knowledge and experience in forensic field a plus; must be willing to be trained to assist in forensic work
• Knowledge of medical terminology/anatomy is preferred
• Able to maintain effective working relationship with physicians and co-workers, as well as general public and law enforcement agencies, courts, and other County departments
• Must be able to multitask on a daily basis
• Regular exposure to unpleasant odors and body fluids daily
• Must pass drug test
  • Must have the ability to work in person, not remote.

Primary Job Duties
• Under direction, provides assistance to doctor(s) performing postmortem examinations and autopsies, including evisceration of remains; assisting as needed in collecting toxicology samples, photographs, entering data into computer for each case, and maintaining chain of custody for evidence/property
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of autopsy and morgue equipment and materials.
• Releases bodies to funeral homes, including transferring property to funeral homes and helping with lifting bodies.
• Rotate weekend/holidays on-call to assist with autopsies as needed
• Other duties as assigned
After receiving a conditional offer of employment, applicant must pass a drug screen (1/2 cost = $20.00, responsibility of applicant) and may need a physical agility test (1/2 cost = $22.50, responsibility of applicant) before becoming an employee of Montgomery County.
