Job description

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
Facility: North Memorial Health Cancer Center
Location: 3435 W Broadway, Robbinsdale, MN 55422
Department: Oncology/Hematology
Shift: Day Shift | Monday–Friday | Between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Type: Permanent (FTE)
Weekend/On-Call: No weekends, no on-call
Hourly Range: $23.66 – $33.00 (based on experience)

Position Summary:
North Memorial Health is seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join its Oncology/Hematology department. This individual will be responsible for collecting and processing patient specimens, performing clinical lab tests, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting of results to assist in diagnosis and treatment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collects and processes specimens using universal precautions, safety control protocols, according to established policies and procedures.
  • Assesses and reacts effectively to unique customer needs.
  • Troubleshoots problems related to specimens and test orders, documents problems and applies corrective action as necessary.
  • Performs computer data entry/receipt of specimens and computer related duties as needed.
  • Prepares and packages samples to be sent to the reference laboratory.
  • Stocks, rotates, and requests supplies to ensure proper availability in the work area.
  • Performs waived and moderately complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with policy and procedure for the diagnosis and treatment of customers, quality control verification, competency, and proficiency testing.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots errors or problems occurring during test performance and documents problems, corrective action, and resolution.
  • Analyzes the validity of customer results in the context of customer age, growth/developmental status, diagnosis, disease state, and/or current treatments.
  • Validates, documents and reports results following standard operating procedures.
  • Performs and documents preventative maintenance according to instrument procedure and regulatory agencies.
  • Performs quality control procedures and verifies quality control results before reporting customer results.
  • Troubleshoots instrument malfunctions documenting corrective action according to instrument procedure and calls instrument contracted service as warranted.
  • Ensures competency by completing annual competency testing and quality assessments.
  • Assists in the orderliness and cleanliness of the laboratory.
  • Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.
  • Understands and follows principles and standards as outlined in North Memorial's Corporate Code of Conduct.
  • Protects customer and team member privacy and only accesses customer and/or team member related information as needed to perform job duties.
  • Reports violations or areas of concern to supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication.

Requirements:
Education:
  • High school diploma or GED – Required
  • Associate degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science – Required
Experience:
  • At least 1 year of clinical lab experience – Required
Certifications:
  • ASCP or NCA Certification – Required
Skills & Knowledge:
  • Understanding of infection control and lab safety protocols
  • Competency in standard lab equipment and software
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate lab test results accurately
