Job description

Lighthouse Lab Services is seeking a Temp/Travel Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join a hospital-based laboratory team in Batesville, IN. This position is responsible for the collection, testing, and analysis of laboratory specimens and the accurate and timely reporting of patient results according to established laboratory protocols and procedures.

The schedule offers day and evening shift flexibility and is negotiable based on department needs and candidate availability. Weekend day-shift scheduling may also be available.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ASCP- or AMT-certified laboratory professional with at least one year of relevant experience who is comfortable working independently in a hospital laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate and appropriate testing of specimens according to established laboratory procedures and protocols.
  • Perform routine phlebotomy procedures while following proper patient identification and safety protocols.
  • Collect, process, and prepare specimens for routine and specialized laboratory testing.
  • Coordinate send-out testing, including reference laboratory specimens, flow cytometry, cytology, bone marrow, chromosome analysis, and pathology specimens.
  • Investigate and document unacceptable specimens and other pre-analytical issues.
  • Review and verify laboratory results for accuracy prior to reporting.
  • Report STAT, abnormal, and critical results according to laboratory policy.
  • Perform required quality control procedures and accurately evaluate QC results before releasing patient results.
  • Troubleshoot out-of-range quality control results and escalate unresolved issues appropriately.
  • Document troubleshooting activities and corrective actions.
  • Perform and document routine analyzer maintenance according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Perform instrument calibrations for new reagent lots and expired calibrations as required.
  • Properly label, manage, and monitor laboratory reagents and quality control materials.
  • Organize daily workload to support efficient testing and timely turnaround of results.
  • Maintain appropriate laboratory supplies and ensure adequate inventory for ongoing testing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and laboratory equipment according to department standards.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities independently while seeking guidance when appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, laboratory colleagues, clinical staff, and other departments.

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Science, or another related scientific field.
  • Current certification/registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist through ASCP or AMT.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant clinical laboratory experience required.
  • Strong laboratory science and technical skills.
  • Ability to operate laboratory instrumentation and basic office equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work effectively with patients and clinical teams.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and troubleshoot routine laboratory issues.

  • Pay rate: $25/hr + 1200 per diem/week
