JOB DESCRIPTION
The candidate will be required to safely perform analyses related to the Interior Products Group (Gypsum, Insulation and Ceiling) raw materials and final products to support new product development, plant operations, new method development and cost reduction efforts. The Lab Technician safely performs advanced specialized technical functions involving testing, analyzing, improving, installing, operating, and/or solving problems concerning gypsum, insulation and ceilings.
 
JOB OBJECTIVES:
- Supports engineers and scientists in R&D team with their projects.
- Executes and/or supports commercial and manufacturing support requests.
- Manages and documents projects by creating concise and technically accurate summary reports effectively with supervision.
- Conducts hands-on experimental work and ensures all products are tested and approved according to the company SOP.
- Performs research and a variety of experiments, makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results. - Plays an active role in lab management: safety aspects, equipment maintenance, 5S, lab audit preparation and action follow-up, lab postings, regular equipment checks etc.
- Demonstrates open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility.
 
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ability to work in a laboratory environment, building relationships and establishing support to execute projects.
• Prepares/processes materials samples including:
o Active involvement in standard and exploratory experiment design for gypsum board
o Routine laboratory activity to make or prep materials and test samples according to ASTM, UL or company methods.
o Collects, analyzes and reports scientific & engineering data obtained from laboratory equipment through an effective plan/coordination.
o Performs preliminary statistical data analysis using appropriate tools (e.g. Excel) and present results and maintains laboratory notebook.
• Maintain laboratories and equipment including set-up, operation and troubleshooting of experimental equipment or instruments. Leads troubleshooting initiatives and machine repair efforts. 
• Perform 5S duties, order and inventory materials in order to maintain supplies. 
• Creates concise and technically accurate summary reports of their work. 
• Understand/learn material properties which are critical to quality attributes. 
• Continuously evaluates workplace for safety concerns and ensures behavioral safety initiatives are performed to goal levels.
 
Qualifications
• High school diploma with 3-4 years chemical lab experience required 
• Associates degree preferred in scientific field with professional experience (chemistry, engineering or science preferred) 
• Co-op, intern, and/or prior Chemical laboratory experience preferred 
• Should possess a basic understanding of statistical tools, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation. 
• Demonstrated basic knowledge in HSE 
• Applicants should be comfortable in a laboratory environment with the use of power tools and basic machinery. 
• Develop and demonstrate understanding of company policies and corporate structure.
