Job Summary:

The IDEA Lab Coordinator provides comprehensive management of the IDEA Lab. This position is responsible for developing and implementing processes that ensure the equipment, tools, and resources of the IDEA Lab are used safely by RRCC students and maintained within proper inventory. This position will facilitate the hiring of student employees and provide regular training, supervision, coaching, and feedback that promotes consistent follow-through among team members of essential safety protocols, procedures, and team norms. The IDEA Lab Coordinator will manage, delegate, and respond to incoming requests and communication related to utilizing IDEA Lab resources. This position will lead efforts that promote a welcoming and inclusive environment in the IDEA Lab and continuously seek out opportunities for collaboration across various teams and departments.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to give and receive information and present complex information to groups and in public settings.
  • Strong skills related to time management and project management. Ability to create deadlines and execute projects under effective timelines with thorough attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively while keeping work organized.
  • Strong leadership and training skills. Ability to provide targeted, supportive feedback and lead training opportunities to improve consistent follow-through across team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with a variety of stakeholders and galvanize efforts around common goals.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office suite products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive working and learning environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent education and 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting advanced hardware such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, and electronic stations.
  • Lab management, facilities oversight, or closely related experience.
  • Training experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership or supervision experience.
  • Experience leading programming related to the following areas: AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks, 3D printing/sculpting/modeling, woodworking, laser cutting, programming for Arduinos/Raspberry Pis, virtual/augmented reality.
  • Experience managing a makerspace.
  • Experience maintaining inventory and/or lab equipment.
  • Experience working in diverse communities and supporting the success of individuals from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.
  • Prior experience within a community college setting or working with students in a teaching environment.

Physical & Cognitive Demands

The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files, lab equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Starting Salary

Starting salary range for this position is $54,925 - $60,417 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
